Psalm 105

God’s Faithfulness to His People

1Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name;

proclaim his deeds among the peoples.105:1 Ps 9:11; Is 12:4

2Sing to him, sing praise to him;

tell about all his wondrous works!105:2 Ps 96:3

3Boast in his holy name;

let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.105:3 Ps 33:21

4Seek the Lord and his strength;

seek his face always.105:4 Ps 27:8; 63:2

5Remember the wondrous works he has done,

his wonders, and the judgments he has pronounced,105:5 Lit judgments of his mouth105:5 Ps 77:11; 119:13

6you offspring of Abraham his servant,

Jacob’s descendants — his chosen ones.105:6 Ps 135:4

7He is the Lord our God;

his judgments govern the whole earth.105:7 Is 26:9

8He remembers his covenant forever,

the promise he ordained

9the covenant he made with Abraham,

10and confirmed to Jacob as a decree

11“I will give the land of Canaan to you

12When they were few in number,

very few indeed,

and resident aliens in Canaan,105:12 Gn 34:30; Dt 7:7

13wandering from nation to nation

and from one kingdom to another,105:13 Dt 26:5

14he allowed no one to oppress them;

he rebuked kings on their behalf:105:14 Gn 12:17; 20:3,7

15“Do not touch my anointed ones,105:15 Gn 20:6–7; 26:11

or harm my prophets.”105:1–15 1Ch 16:8–22

16He called down famine against the land

and destroyed the entire food supply.105:16 Gn 41:54; Lv 26:26; Ezk 4:16

17He had sent a man ahead of them —

Joseph, who was sold as a slave.105:17 Gn 37:28–36; 45:5; Ac 7:9

18They hurt his feet with shackles;

his neck was put in an iron collar.105:18 Gn 39:20

19Until the time his prediction came true,

the word of the Lord tested him.105:19 Gn 40:20–21

20The king sent for him and released him;

the ruler of peoples set him free.105:20 Gn 41:14

21He made him master of his household,

ruler over all his possessions105:21 Gn 41:40–43 —

23Then Israel went to Egypt;

25whose hearts he turned to hate his people

26He sent Moses his servant,

27They performed his miraculous signs among them

28He sent darkness, and it became dark —

29He turned their water into blood

and caused their fish to die.105:29 Ex 7:20–21

30Their land was overrun with frogs,

even in their royal chambers.105:30 Ex 8:3,6

31He spoke, and insects came105:31 Ex 8:21 —

32He gave them hail for rain,

and lightning throughout their land.105:32–33 Ex 9:23–25

33He struck their vines and fig trees

and shattered the trees of their territory.105:33 Ps 78:47

34He spoke, and locusts came —

young locusts without number.

35They devoured all the vegetation in their land

and consumed the produce of their land.105:34–35 Ex 10:12–15

36He struck all the firstborn in their land,

all their first progeny.105:36 Ex 12:29; 13:15; Ps 78:51

37Then he brought Israel out with silver and gold,

and no one among his tribes stumbled.105:37 Ex 12:35–36

38Egypt was glad when they left,

39He spread a cloud as a covering

40They asked, and he brought quail

41He opened a rock, and water gushed out;

42For he remembered his holy promise

to Abraham his servant.105:42 Ex 2:24

43He brought his people out with rejoicing,

his chosen ones with shouts of joy.105:43 Ex 15:1; Ps 106:12

44He gave them the lands of the nations,

and they inherited

what other peoples had worked for.105:44 Jos 24:13; Ps 78:55

45All this happened

so that they might keep his statutes

and obey his instructions.105:45 Dt 4:1,40; Ps 78:7
