鳴諸有司曰：『此本猶太人、擾及吾邑、強傳律法、為吾羅馬人所不宜受、不宜行者。』於是眾人群起而攻之；有司命褫衣笞之。

『查得此人、煽惑我民、禁人納稅於凱撒、自稱受命之王。』

巴拉巴者、城中作亂殺人、而下獄者也。

設證以誣之曰：『律法與聖所、時為所謗；

釋作亂殺人之巴拉巴、而交耶穌於眾、聽所欲為。

遂大譁、拋擲其衣、揚塵空中。

凡橫逆之來、如能懷念天主而忍受之、斯可嘉矣。

被人譭謗、我則禱之。而吾儕至今猶為天下之所唾棄、眾污之所歸集也！

爾等為予之故、而被人詬詈迫辱、多方誣衊者、斯為真福、是宜歡欣踴躍、灑然而樂。蓋爾之天爵大矣。前輩先知被人迫辱、亦猶是耳。
