Say to the Ammonites, Hear the word of the Lord God: Thus says the Lord God, Because you said,‘ Aha!’ over my sanctuary when it was profaned, and over the land of Israel when it was made desolate, and over the house of Judah when they went into exile,therefore behold, I am handing you over to the people of the East for a possession, and they shall set their encampments among you and make their dwellings in your midst. They shall eat your fruit, and they shall drink your milk.I will make Rabbah a pasture for camels and Ammon a fold for flocks. Then you will know that I am the Lord.For thus says the Lord God: Because you have clapped your hands and stamped your feet and rejoiced with all the malice within your soul against the land of Israel,therefore, behold, I have stretched out my hand against you, and will hand you over as plunder to the nations. And I will cut you off from the peoples and will make you perish out of the countries; I will destroy you. Then you will know that I am the Lord.“ Thus says the Lord God: Because Moab and Seir said,‘ Behold, the house of Judah is like all the other nations,’therefore I will lay open the flank of Moab from the cities, from its cities on its frontier, the glory of the country, Beth-jeshimoth, Baal-meon, and Kiriathaim.

For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.”It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline?

“ Son of man, because Tyre said concerning Jerusalem,‘ Aha, the gate of the peoples is broken; it has swung open to me. I shall be replenished, now that she is laid waste,’

“ Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon has devoured me; he has crushed me; he has made me an empty vessel; he has swallowed me like a monster; he has filled his stomach with my delicacies; he has rinsed me out.The violence done to me and to my kinsmen be upon Babylon,” let the inhabitant of Zion say.“ My blood be upon the inhabitants of Chaldea,” let Jerusalem say.

For behold, your enemies make an uproar; those who hate you have raised their heads.They lay crafty plans against your people; they consult together against your treasured ones.They say,“ Come, let us wipe them out as a nation; let the name of Israel be remembered no more!”For they conspire with one accord; against you they make a covenant—

Then all the inhabitants of Egypt shall know that I am the Lord.“ Because you have been a staff of reed to the house of Israel,when they grasped you with the hand, you broke and tore all their shoulders; and when they leaned on you, you broke and made all their loins to shake.

“ Woe to those who are at ease in Zion, and to those who feel secure on the mountain of Samaria, the notable men of the first of the nations, to whom the house of Israel comes!

Our soul has had more than enough of the scorn of those who are at ease, of the contempt of the proud.

As she glorified herself and lived in luxury, so give her a like measure of torment and mourning, since in her heart she says,‘ I sit as a queen, I am no widow, and mourning I shall never see.’For this reason her plagues will come in a single day, death and mourning and famine, and she will be burned up with fire; for mighty is the Lord God who has judged her.”

therefore, O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord God: Thus says the Lord God to the mountains and the hills, the ravines and the valleys, the desolate wastes and the deserted cities, which have become a prey and derision to the rest of the nations all around,therefore thus says the Lord God: Surely I have spoken in my hot jealousy against the rest of the nations and against all Edom, who gave my land to themselves as a possession with wholehearted joy and utter contempt, that they might make its pasturelands a prey.

Remember, O Lord, against the Edomites the day of Jerusalem, how they said,“ Lay it bare, lay it bare, down to its foundations!”
