其人選務求品格純粹、無瑕可指、一婦之夫、兒女奉主、無蕩檢不馴之稱。

An elder must be blameless, faithful to his wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient.

An elder must be without blame. He must be faithful to his wife. His children must be believers. They must not give anyone a reason to say that they are wild and don’t obey.

The overseer then must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, self- controlled, respectable, hospitable, an able teacher,not a drunkard, not violent, but gentle, not contentious, free from the love of money.He must manage his own household well and keep his children in control without losing his dignity.But if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for the church of God?He must not be a recent convert or he may become arrogant and fall into the punishment that the devil will exact.And he must be well thought of by those outside the faith, so that he may not fall into disgrace and be caught by the devil’s trap.

Deacons must be husbands of one wife and good managers of their children and their own households.

For there are many rebellious people, idle talkers, and deceivers, especially those with Jewish connections,

They must not marry a widow or a divorcee, but they may marry a virgin from the house of Israel or a widow who is a priest’s widow.

They must not take a wife defiled by prostitution, nor are they to take a wife divorced from her husband, for the priest is holy to his God.

And do not get drunk with wine, which is debauchery, but be filled by the Spirit,

And we urge you, brothers and sisters, admonish the undisciplined, comfort the discouraged, help the weak, be patient toward all.

On that day I will carry out against Eli everything that I spoke about his house– from start to finish!You should tell him that I am about to judge his house forever because of the sin that he knew about. For his sons were cursing God, and he did not rebuke them.

The one who keeps the law is a discerning child, but a companion of gluttons brings shame to his parents.

Now Eli was very old when he heard about everything that his sons used to do to all the people of Israel and how they used to have sex with the women who were stationed at the entrance to the tent of meeting.

No one who has even a small portion of the Spirit in him does this. What did our ancestor do when seeking a child from God? Be attentive, then, to your own spirit, for one should not be disloyal to the wife he took in his youth.
