“ So you, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know what day your Lord is coming.Understand this: If a homeowner knew exactly when a burglar was coming, he would keep watch and not permit his house to be broken into.

“ Look, I will come as unexpectedly as a thief! Blessed are all who are watching for me, who keep their clothing ready so they will not have to walk around naked and ashamed.”

This is my second letter to you, dear friends, and in both of them I have tried to stimulate your wholesome thinking and refresh your memory.

But you aren’t in the dark about these things, dear brothers and sisters, and you won’t be surprised when the day of the Lord comes like a thief.For you are all children of the light and of the day; we don’t belong to darkness and night.So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded.

“ So you, too, must keep watch! For you do not know the day or hour of my return.

Timothy, guard what God has entrusted to you. Avoid godless, foolish discussions with those who oppose you with their so called knowledge.

So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it.

And since you don’t know when that time will come, be on guard! Stay alert!

Then you will remember your past sins and despise yourselves for all the detestable things you did.

I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference.

I will make your sisters, Samaria and Sodom, to be your daughters, even though they are not part of our covenant.And I will reaffirm my covenant with you, and you will know that I am the Lord.You will remember your sins and cover your mouth in silent shame when I forgive you of all that you have done. I, the Sovereign Lord, have spoken!”

And it is only right that I should keep on reminding you as long as I live.
