I have become a stranger to my brothers, And an alien to my mother’s children;

我於昆弟為外人、我於同胞為異族兮、

即我同氣、即我手足、亦視余若疏遠兮、

我兄弟視我如陌路、我同胞待我以外人、

夫予之蒙恥而受辱兮。非為主之故乎。

I am a foreigner to my own family, a stranger to my own mother’s children;

I’m an outsider to my own family. I’m a stranger to my own mother’s children.

I have become a stranger to my brothers, an alien to my mother’s sons.

Even my own brothers pretend they don’t know me; they treat me like a stranger.

My loved ones and my friends stand aloof from my plague, And my relatives stand afar off.

But he denied it before them all, saying,“ I do not know what you are saying.”And when he had gone out to the gateway, another girl saw him and said to those who were there,“ This fellow also was with Jesus of Nazareth.”But again he denied with an oath,“ I do not know the Man!”And a little later those who stood by came up and said to Peter,“ Surely you also are one of them, for your speech betrays you.”Then he began to curse and swear, saying,“ I do not know the Man!” Immediately a rooster crowed.

He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.

Now Eliab his oldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab’s anger was aroused against David, and he said,“ Why did you come down here? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and the insolence of your heart, for you have come down to see the battle.”

“ He has removed my brothers far from me, And my acquaintances are completely estranged from me.My relatives have failed, And my close friends have forgotten me.Those who dwell in my house, and my maidservants, Count me as a stranger; I am an alien in their sight.I call my servant, but he gives no answer; I beg him with my mouth.My breath is offensive to my wife, And I am repulsive to the children of my own body.Even young children despise me; I arise, and they speak against me.All my close friends abhor me, And those whom I love have turned against me.

For even His brothers did not believe in Him.

Do not trust in a friend; Do not put your confidence in a companion; Guard the doors of your mouth From her who lies in your bosom.For son dishonors father, Daughter rises against her mother, Daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; A man’s enemies are the men of his own household.

“ Now brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death.And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.

He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.

But all this was done that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples forsook Him and fled.

For I have come to‘ set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’;and‘ a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’

Now His betrayer had given them a sign, saying,“ Whomever I kiss, He is the One; seize Him.”Immediately he went up to Jesus and said,“ Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed Him.But Jesus said to him,“ Friend, why have you come?” Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and took Him.
