心怨口讟。弁髦良箴。

They grumbled in their tents and did not obey the Lord.

In their tents they told the Lord how unhappy they were. They didn’t obey him.

They murmured in their tents, and did not obey the voice of the Lord.

Instead, they grumbled in their tents and refused to obey the Lord.

You were not willing to go up, however, but instead rebelled against the LORD your God.You complained among yourselves privately and said,“ Because the LORD hates us he brought us from Egypt to deliver us over to the Amorites so they could destroy us!

For he is our God; we are the people of his pasture, the sheep he owns. Today, if only you would obey him!He says,“ Do not be stubborn like they were at Meribah, like they were that day at Massah in the wilderness,where your ancestors challenged my authority, and tried my patience, even though they had seen my work.

Then all the community raised a loud cry, and the people wept that night.And all the Israelites murmured against Moses and Aaron, and the whole congregation said to them,“ If only we had died in the land of Egypt, or if only we had perished in this wilderness!Why has the LORD brought us into this land only to be killed by the sword, that our wives and our children should become plunder? Wouldn’t it be better for us to return to Egypt?”So they said to one another,“ Let’s appoint a leader and return to Egypt.”

Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says,“ Oh, that today you would listen as he speaks!“ Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of testing in the wilderness.

For all the people have seen my glory and my signs that I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and yet have tempted me now these ten times, and have not obeyed me,

As it says,“ Oh, that today you would listen as he speaks! Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”
