Then the Jews said to Him,“ Now we know that You have a demon! Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and You say,‘ If anyone keeps My word he shall never taste death.’

And many of them said,“ He has a demon and is mad. Why do you listen to Him?”

But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy; and contradicting and blaspheming, they opposed the things spoken by Paul.Then Paul and Barnabas grew bold and said,“ It was necessary that the word of God should be spoken to you first; but since you reject it, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles.

The man answered and said to them,“ Why, this is a marvelous thing, that you do not know where He is from; yet He has opened my eyes!Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him.Since the world began it has been unheard of that anyone opened the eyes of one who was born blind.If this Man were not from God, He could do nothing.”They answered and said to him,“ You were completely born in sins, and are you teaching us?” And they cast him out.

So when they did not agree among themselves, they departed after Paul had said one word:“ The Holy Spirit spoke rightly through Isaiah the prophet to our fathers,saying,‘ Go to this people and say:“ Hearing you will hear, and shall not understand; And seeing you will see, and not perceive;For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.”’“ Therefore let it be known to you that the salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles, and they will hear it!”

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, and said to Him,“ Are we blind also?”

We are fools for Christ’s sake, but you are wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are distinguished, but we are dishonored!To the present hour we both hunger and thirst, and we are poorly clothed, and beaten, and homeless.And we labor, working with our own hands. Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we endure;being defamed, we entreat. We have been made as the filth of the world, the offscouring of all things until now.
