塔勒带着他的儿子亚伯兰和他的孙子，就是哈兰的儿子罗得，也带着他的儿媳妇——他儿子亚伯兰的妻子撒莱，一同从迦勒底的吾珥出来，要往迦南地去。他们来到哈兰的时候，就在那里住下了。

你的名字不再叫亚伯兰，而要叫亚伯拉罕，因为我已立你为多国之父。

耶和华对亚伯兰说：“你当离开你的本土、本族、父家，往我将要指示你的地去。我要使你成为一个大国，我要祝福你，使你的名为大；你也必成为别人的祝福！

司提反说：“各位父老兄弟，请听！我们的先祖亚伯拉罕住哈兰以前，还在美索不达米亚的时候，荣耀的神向他显现，对他说：‘你要离开你的故土和亲族，到我所要指示你的地方去。’“于是亚伯拉罕离开迦勒底人的地方，住在哈兰。他的父亲死了以后，神使他从那里迁移到你们现在所住的这地方。

你们要仰望你们的先祖亚伯拉罕，以及那生你们的撒拉。我召唤了亚伯拉罕一个人，祝福了他，使他繁衍增多。

可是你，以色列啊，我的仆人！雅各啊，我所拣选的，我朋友亚伯拉罕的后裔！你是我从地极领来，从地角召来的；我对你说：“你是我的仆人；我拣选了你，没有弃绝你。”

耶和华对他说：“我是耶和华，我把你从迦勒底人的吾珥领出来，为要将这地赐给你，使你拥有它。”
