因為當時天氣寒冷，奴僕和差役們生了一堆炭火，站著取暖。彼得也與他們站在一起取暖。

那時，祭司長們和民間的長老們聚集在叫該亞法的大祭司的宅院裡，

西門彼得正站著取暖，有人對他說：「你不也是他的門徒嗎？」彼得否認說：「我不是。」

這時，西門彼得和另一個門徒跟著耶穌。那門徒是大祭司所認識的，所以跟著耶穌進了大祭司的院子；彼得卻站在門外。後來，大祭司認識的那個門徒出來，對看門的說了一聲，就把彼得帶了進去。

耶穌在極大的痛苦中，禱告更加懇切；他的汗珠變得像大血滴，落在地上。

彼得對耶穌說：「即使所有的人被絆倒，我還是不會。」可是耶穌對他說：「我確實地告訴你：今天，就在今夜，雞叫兩遍以前，你會三次不認我。」彼得卻堅決地說：「就算我必須與你同死，我也絕不會不認你。」所有的門徒也都這麼說。

她看見彼得在取暖，就注視著他，說：「你也與那個拿撒勒人耶穌是一夥的。」彼得卻否認說：「我既不明白，也不知道你在說什麼。」於是他就出去，到了門廊。這時候，雞叫了。

彼得遠遠地跟著耶穌，一直到大祭司的院子。他進到裡面，與差役們坐在一起，想看看結果如何。

要警醒禱告，免得陷入試探。你們心靈雖然願意，肉體卻是軟弱的。」

他們在院子當中生了火，一起坐著。彼得也坐在他們中間。有一個女僕看見彼得坐在火光中，就注視著他，說：「這個人也與他是一夥的。」

有些希伯來人渡過約旦河到了迦得和基列地；掃羅仍然在吉甲，所有軍兵都戰戰兢兢地跟隨他。
