「予愛仁慈、不愛祭祀」之精義、當勿罪無辜矣。

「予愛仁慈、不愛祭祀；」爾其歸而玩索斯語之義。蓋予之來、非召義者、惟召罪人耳。』

靈鑒莫不察。知爾祭祀勤。燔牲無瑕疵。居常聞芬馨。茲欲爾知者。此事非所欣。豈貪爾太牢。豈羨爾羔羊。林間之百獸。皆屬天地藏。千山與萬壑。為我遊牧場。山上之飛翮。野中之毛族。宇宙與萬物。何者非吾屬。吾若患饑渴。寧就爾取足。奚用飲羊血。奚用饗牛犢。懷恩是眞祭。篤行爾所諾。救爾出苦難。賜爾贊化育。

使我無愛德、而徒能操萬國之音、作天神之語、則猶鳴鑼擊鈸而已矣。使我無愛德、而具先知之靈賦、心通一切玄妙、一切知識、甚至有移山之信、則亦浮華無實耳。使我無愛德、雖罄輸所有、以濟貧寒、甚至捨身以投諸火、亦何益之有。

懷恩以為祭。賜爾弘玄德。整飭爾行為。救恩徒手得。

首節所謂「牲牷」、「祭禮」、「燔祭」、「贖罪祭」、「皆非爾所喜」者、悉屬律法之事也。
