法利賽人看見，就對耶穌的門徒說：「你們的老師為甚麼與稅吏和罪人一同吃飯呢？」

法利賽人見之、問其門徒曰、爾師何為與稅吏罪人同食乎、

法利塞人見之、謂其徒曰：『爾師奚為與稅吏罪人同食？』

When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples,“ Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

法利賽人和文士就向耶穌的門徒發怨言說：「你們為甚麼跟稅吏和罪人一同吃喝呢？」

法利賽人中的文士看見耶穌與罪人和稅吏一同吃飯，就對他的門徒說：「他與稅吏和罪人一同吃飯嗎？」

許多稅吏和罪人都挨近耶穌，要聽他講道。法利賽人和文士私下議論說：「這個人接納罪人，又同他們吃飯。」

我先前寫信告訴過你們，不可與淫亂的人交往。此話不是泛指這世上所有行淫亂的，或貪婪的，勒索的，或拜偶像的；若是這樣，你們非離開這世界不可。但現在，我寫信告訴你們，若有稱為弟兄的人卻仍犯淫亂，或貪婪，或拜偶像，或辱罵，或醉酒，或勒索，這樣的人不可跟他交往，就是跟他吃飯都不可以。

我們生來就是猶太人，不是外邦罪人；

他能體諒無知和迷失的人，因為他自己也是被軟弱所困，

眾人看見，都私下議論說：「他竟然到罪人家裏去住宿。」

且對人說：『你站開吧！不要挨近我，因為我對你來說太神聖了。』這些人惹我鼻中冒煙，如終日燃燒的火。

他們到了門徒那裏，看見有一大羣人圍着他們，又有文士和他們辯論。眾人一見耶穌，都很驚奇，就跑上去向他問安。耶穌問他們：「你們和他們辯論甚麼？」
