一經生進曰：『夫子任爾所之、我願相從。』

Then a teacher of the law came to him and said,“ Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.”

And a scribe came up and said to him,“ Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.”

Then a scribe came and said to Him,“ Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go.”

Then a certain scribe came and said to Him,“ Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go.”

And there came a scribe, and said unto him, Teacher, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.

A scribe approached Him and said,“ Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go!”

And a certain scribe came, and said unto him, Master, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.

Then an expert in the law came to him and said,“ Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.”

A scribe came, and said to him,“ Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.”

西門彼得問：「主啊，你要到哪裡去呢？」耶穌回答：「我去的地方，你現在不能跟著去，但以後會跟著去。」彼得說：「主啊，為什麼我現在就不能跟隨你呢？為了你，我願意捨棄自己的生命！」耶穌回答：「你願意為我捨命嗎？我確確實實地告訴你：雞叫以前，你必定三次不認我。

可是彼得對耶穌說：「主啊，我預備好要與你一起去監獄、一起去死！」耶穌卻說：「彼得，我告訴你：今天雞叫以前，你會三次否定認識我。」

同樣，你們當中任何人，如果不向自己所擁有的一切告別，就不能做我的門徒。

他們在路上走的時候，有一個人對耶穌說：「無論你到哪裡去，我都要跟從你。」耶穌對他說：「狐狸有洞，天空的飛鳥有窩，人子卻沒有枕頭的地方。」耶穌對另一個人說：「你跟從我！」可是他說：「主啊，請准許我先去埋葬我的父親。」耶穌對他說：「讓死人去埋葬他們的死人吧。至於你，你要去宣講神的國。」

那經文士就對耶穌說：「不錯，老師，你真的講了：神只有一位，除他以外沒有別的神。以全心、全智、全力來愛神，並且要愛鄰如己，這是比所有的燔祭和各種祭祀都重要的。」耶穌見他回答得有智慧，就對他說：「你離神的國不遠了。」於是，沒有人敢再質問耶穌了。

有一大群人與耶穌同行。他轉過身來對他們說：「如果有人到我這裡來，而不恨自己的父親、母親、妻子、兒女、兄弟、姐妹，甚至自己的生命，他就不能做我的門徒。凡是不背著自己的十字架來跟從我的，也不能做我的門徒。

智慧人在哪裡？經文士在哪裡？這世代的雄辯家在哪裡？神難道不使這世界的智慧成了愚拙嗎？
