于是，大祭司盘问耶稣有关他的门徒和他教导的事。耶稣回答他：“我一向都是公开地对世人讲话，我常在会堂和圣殿里，就是犹太人聚集的地方教导人，我私下并没有讲什么。你为什么问我呢？去问那些听过我讲话的人，我所说的，他们都知道。”耶稣说了这些话，旁边站着的一个警卫打了他一耳光，说：“你这样回答大祭司吗？”耶稣回答他：“假如我说的不对，你指证不对的地方；假如我说的对，你为什么打我呢？”于是亚那把耶稣绑着押解到大祭司该亚法那里。

那队兵、千夫长和犹太人的警卫拿住耶稣，把他捆绑了，先带到亚那面前，因为他是那年的大祭司该亚法的岳父。这该亚法就是从前向犹太人忠告说“一个人替百姓死是有利的”那个人。

他们把耶稣带到大祭司那里，又有众祭司长、长老和文士都来一同聚集。彼得远远地跟着耶稣，直到进了大祭司的院子，和警卫一同坐在火边取暖。祭司长和全议会寻找见证控告耶稣，要处死他，却找不到实据。因为有好些人作假见证告他，他们的见证又各不相符。又有几个人站起来，作假见证告他说：“我们听见他说：‘我要拆毁这人手所造的殿，三日内另造一座不是人手所造的。’”就是这样，他们的见证还是不相符。大祭司起来站在中间，问耶稣说：“这些人作证告你的事，你什么都不回答吗？”耶稣却不言语，一句也不回答。大祭司又问他：“你是不是基督，那当称颂者的儿子？”耶稣说：“我是。你们要看见人子坐在那权能者的右边，驾着天上的云来临。”大祭司就撕裂衣服，说：“我们何必再要证人呢？你们已经听见他这亵渎的话了。你们的决定如何？”他们都判定他该处死。于是有人开始向他吐唾沫，又蒙着他的脸，用拳头打他，对他说：“你说预言吧！”警卫把他拉过来，打他耳光。
