Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked,“ Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?”

Some Pharisees came to test Jesus. They asked,“ Does the Law allow a man to divorce his wife for any reason at all?”

And Pharisees came up to him and tested him by asking,“ Is it lawful to divorce one’s wife for any cause?”

Some Pharisees came and tried to trap him with this question:“ Should a man be allowed to divorce his wife for just any reason?”

Some Pharisees approached him to test him. They asked,“ Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife on any grounds?”

Some Pharisees came to Jesus, testing Him and asking,“ Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason at all?”

The Pharisees also came to Him, testing Him, and saying to Him,“ Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?”

And there came unto him Pharisees, trying him, and saying, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?

Some Pharisees approached Him to test Him. They asked,“ Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife on any grounds?”

The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?

Then some Pharisees came to him in order to test him. They asked,“ Is it lawful to divorce a wife for any cause?”

法利賽人入試耶穌、就而問曰、人出妻可乎、

其時爾列祖歷四十年、觀我之作為、猶試我探我、

法利賽及撒度該人來試耶穌、請示以自天之異跡、

遂遣其徒、同希律黨、就之曰、師、我儕知爾乃真者、以真傳天主道、爾不顧人議、蓋爾不以貌取人、請告我、爾意如何、納稅於該撒該撒羅瑪君之稱宜否、耶穌知其惡意、曰、偽善者乎、何為試我、

眾言此、乃試耶穌、欲得故以訟之、耶穌鞠躬、以指畫地、

其中一教法師、試耶穌、問曰、

耶穌識其詐、曰、何為試我、取一第拿流、予我觀之、

後遣法利賽及希律黨數人、欲即其言以陷之、

耶穌以此言語經士及法利賽人、彼眾深憾之、多端駁詰、且窺伺焉、欲就其口所言者而訟之、

又有言云、若人出妻、當以離書予之、惟我告爾、若非為淫故而出妻、是使之行淫、凡娶被出之婦者、則犯姦也、○

爾曰、此何故耶、答曰、爾幼年娶妻、有主於爾二人中作證、彼原爾之伴侶、為爾盟約之妻、爾幼年娶妻有主於爾二人中作證彼原爾之伴侶為爾盟約之妻或作是因主在爾及爾幼年所娶之妻中為證爾幼年所娶之妻原為爾之伴侶爾亦曾與彼立約爾反欺之、若問彼一人一人指亞伯拉罕見以西結三十三章二十四節不亦曾行此乎、見創世記十六章一節以下何為又蒙神感有餘耶、答曰、彼一人行此何求、乃求得天主所許之苗裔、或作未有一人稍有義氣而行此事有義氣者娶妻何求惟求生子敬畏天主又作天主造人非造一男一女乎非賦之一神乎何為造一男一女乎造一男一女乃欲人生子敬畏天主故當守爾心、故當守爾心或作故當心中自慎下同勿欺幼年所娶之妻、以色列天主萬有之主曰、出妻之事、與虐待其妻之人、我所厭惡、故當守爾心、勿欺爾妻、○
