Then they scoffed,“ He’s just the carpenter’s son, and we know Mary, his mother, and his brothers— James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas.

They said,“ Isn’t this Jesus, the son of Joseph? We know his father and mother. How can he say,‘ I came down from heaven’?”

Jesus was about thirty years old when he began his public ministry. Jesus was known as the son of Joseph. Joseph was the son of Heli.

Then they scoffed,“ He’s just a carpenter, the son of Mary and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon. And his sisters live right here among us.” They were deeply offended and refused to believe in him.

The only other apostle I met at that time was James, the Lord’s brother.

He took with him Mary, to whom he was engaged, who was now expecting a child.And while they were there, the time came for her baby to be born.She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them.

My servant grew up in the Lord’s presence like a tender green shoot, like a root in dry ground. There was nothing beautiful or majestic about his appearance, nothing to attract us to him.He was despised and rejected— a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care.

It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and several other women who told the apostles what had happened.

Standing near the cross were Jesus’ mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary( the wife of Clopas), and Mary Magdalene.

Some women were there, watching from a distance, including Mary Magdalene, Mary( the mother of James the younger and of Joseph), and Salome.

But I am a worm and not a man. I am scorned and despised by all!

As Jesus was speaking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, asking to speak to him.Someone told Jesus,“ Your mother and your brothers are standing outside, and they want to speak to you.”Jesus asked,“ Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?”

Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph saw where Jesus’ body was laid.Saturday evening, when the Sabbath ended, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome went out and purchased burial spices so they could anoint Jesus’ body.

Philip went to look for Nathanael and told him,“ We have found the very person Moses and the prophets wrote about! His name is Jesus, the son of Joseph from Nazareth.”“ Nazareth!” exclaimed Nathanael.“ Can anything good come from Nazareth?”“ Come and see for yourself,” Philip replied.

Others said,“ He is the Messiah.” Still others said,“ But he can’t be! Will the Messiah come from Galilee?For the Scriptures clearly state that the Messiah will be born of the royal line of David, in Bethlehem, the village where King David was born.”

The Lord, the Redeemer and Holy One of Israel, says to the one who is despised and rejected by the nations, to the one who is the servant of rulers:“ Kings will stand at attention when you pass by. Princes will also bow low because of the Lord, the faithful one, the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.”

This is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother, Mary, was engaged to be married to Joseph. But before the marriage took place, while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit.Joseph, to whom she was engaged, was a righteous man and did not want to disgrace her publicly, so he decided to break the engagement quietly.As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream.“ Joseph, son of David,” the angel said,“ do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit.
