Exodus 20:9-11

How she praised God!But the leader in charge of the synagogue was indignant that Jesus had healed her on the Sabbath day.“ There are six days of the week for working,” he said to the crowd.“ Come on those days to be healed, not on the Sabbath.”But the Lord replied,“ You hypocrites! Each of you works on the Sabbath day! Don’t you untie your ox or your donkey from its stall on the Sabbath and lead it out for water?This dear woman, a daughter of Abraham, has been held in bondage by Satan for eighteen years. Isn’t it right that she be released, even on the Sabbath?”This shamed his enemies, but all the people rejoiced at the wonderful things he did.

Is this a day to save life or to destroy it?”He looked around at them one by one and then said to the man,“ Hold out your hand.” So the man held out his hand, and it was restored!At this, the enemies of Jesus were wild with rage and began to discuss what to do with him.

“ Keep the Sabbath day holy. Don’t pursue your own interests on that day, but enjoy the Sabbath and speak of it with delight as the Lord’s holy day. Honor the Sabbath in everything you do on that day, and don’t follow your own desires or talk idly.

One day while the people of Israel were in the wilderness, they discovered a man gathering wood on the Sabbath day.The people who found him doing this took him before Moses, Aaron, and the rest of the community.They held him in custody because they did not know what to do with him.Then the Lord said to Moses,“ The man must be put to death! The whole community must stone him outside the camp.”So the whole community took the man outside the camp and stoned him to death, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.
