主人把他叫來，對他說：‘我聽見關於你的是怎麼一回事呢？把你管理的帳目交代清楚，因為你不能再作管家了。’那管家心裡說：‘主人不要我再作管家了，我作甚麼才好呢？鋤地吧，沒有力氣！討飯吧，怕羞！我知道要怎麼作了，好使人在我離開管家的職務以後，接我到他們家裡去。’於是把欠他主人債的人，一個一個地叫來，問頭一個說：‘你欠我主人多少？’他說：‘四千公升油。’管家說：‘拿你的欠單去，快坐下寫二千。’又問一個說：‘你欠多少？’他說：‘四萬公升麥子。’管家說：‘拿你的欠單去，寫三萬。’主人就誇獎這不義的管家作事機警；因為在應付自己的世事上，今世之子比光明之子更精明。我告訴你們，要用不義的錢財（“錢財”亞蘭文是“瑪門”）去結交朋友，好叫錢財無用的時候，他們可以接你們到永恆的帳棚裡。在最小的事上忠心的，在大事上也忠心；在最小的事上不義的，在大事上也不義。如果你們在不義的錢財上不忠心，誰還把真實的錢財託付給你們呢？如果你們在別人的東西上不忠心，誰還把你們自己的東西交給你們呢？“一個家僕不能服事兩個主人；他若不是恨這個愛那個，就是忠於這個輕視那個。你們不能服事神，又服事金錢。”

這樣，你為甚麼批評你的弟兄呢？為甚麼又輕看你的弟兄呢？我們都要站在神的審判臺前；因為經上記著：“主說，我指著我的永生起誓：萬膝必向我跪拜，萬口必稱頌神。”這樣看來，我們各人都要把自己的事向神交代。

這樣，人應該把我們看作基督的僕人，神奧祕的事的管家。對於管家的要求，就是要他忠心。我被你們論斷，或被人間法庭審判，我都認為是極小的事，連我自己也不論斷自己。我雖然問心無愧，卻不能因此自以為義，因為判斷我的是主。所以時候還沒有到，你們不要批評，直等到主來；他要照出黑暗中的隱情，顯明人心裡的動機。那時，各人要從神那裡得著稱讚。

但那不知道的，雖然作了該受責打的事，也必少受責打。多給誰就向誰多取，多託誰就向誰多要。

過了很久，那些僕人的主人回來了，要和他們算帳。

因此，天國好像一個王，要和他的僕人算帳，剛算的時候，有人帶了一個欠下六千萬銀幣的人來。他沒有錢償還，主人就下令叫人把他和他的妻子兒女，以及一切所有的都賣掉，用來償還。那僕人就跪下拜他，說：‘請寬容我，我會把一切還給你的。’主人動了慈心，把那僕人放了，並且免了他的債。那僕人出來，遇見一個欠了他一百個銀幣的僕人，就抓住他，扼著他的喉嚨，說：‘把你欠我的錢還給我。’那和他一同作僕人的就跪下求他，說：‘請寬容我，我會還給你的。’他卻不肯，反而把他帶走，關在監裡，等他把所欠的還清。其他的僕人看見這事，非常難過，就去向主人報告這一切事情。於是主人叫他來，對他說：‘你這個惡僕，你求我，我就免了你欠我的一切。難道你不應該憐憫你的同伴，好像我憐憫你一樣嗎？’於是主人大怒，把他送去服刑，等他把所欠的一切還清。如果你們各人不從心裡饒恕你的弟兄，我的天父也必這樣待你們。”
