But I took your father Abraham from the land beyond the Euphrates and led him throughout Canaan and gave him many descendants. I gave him Isaac,

耶和华对亚伯兰说：“你要离开本地、本族、父家，到我指示你的地方去。我必使你成为大国，赐福给你，使你的名为大，你也必使别人得福，给你祝福的，我必赐福给他；咒诅你的，我必咒诅他；地上的万族，都必因你得福。”亚伯兰就照着耶和华吩咐他的去了；罗得也和他同去。亚伯兰离开哈兰的时候，已经七十五岁。

司提反说：“各位父老兄弟请听！我们的祖宗亚伯拉罕，在美索不达米亚，还没有住在哈兰的时候，荣耀的神向他显现，对他说：‘你要离开本地本族，到我指示你的地方去。’

亚伯拉罕年老的时候，撒拉怀了孕，到了神应许的日期，就给亚伯拉罕生了一个儿子。亚伯拉罕给撒拉为他所生的儿子，起名叫以撒。

儿女是耶和华所赐的产业，腹中的胎儿是他的赏赐。

你是耶和华神，你拣选亚伯兰，带领他出了迦勒底的吾珥，改他的名字为亚伯拉罕。你见他在你面前心里诚实可靠，就与他立约，要把迦南人、赫人、亚摩利人、比利洗人、耶布斯人和革迦撒人之地，赐给他的后裔；你履行了你的诺言，因为你是公义的。

于是领他到外面去，说：“你向天观看，数点众星，看你能不能把它们数得清楚。”又对他说：“你的后裔将要这样众多。”
