They answered and said to him,“ If this Man were not a criminal, we would not have handed Him over to you.”

對曰、彼若非行惡者、我儕則不付於爾矣、

對曰、無罪、則不解與爾、

答曰、彼若非犯罪、則不解於爾、

眾應曰：『苟非惡類、必不解之爾前。』

“ If he were not a criminal,” they replied,“ we would not have handed him over to you.”

“ He has committed crimes,” they replied.“ If he hadn’t, we would not have handed him over to you.”

They answered him,“ If this man were not doing evil, we would not have delivered him over to you.”

“ We wouldn’t have handed him over to you if he weren’t a criminal!” they retorted.

They answered him,“ If this man weren’t a criminal, we wouldn’t have handed him over to you.”

They answered and said to him,“ If He were not an evildoer, we would not have delivered Him up to you.”

They answered and said unto him, If this man were not an evil- doer, we should not have delivered him up unto thee.

They answered him,“ If this man weren’t a criminal, we wouldn’t have handed Him over to you.”

They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee.

They replied,“ If this man were not a criminal, we would not have handed him over to you.”

They answered him,“ If this man weren’t an evildoer, we wouldn’t have delivered him up to you.”

saying,“ Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death and will hand Him over to the Gentiles.

saying that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise from the dead.”

As a result of this, Pilate made efforts to release Him; but the Jews shouted, saying,“ If you release this Man, you are not a friend of Caesar; everyone who makes himself out to be a king opposes Caesar!”

The scribes and the chief priests tried to lay hands on Him that very hour, and yet they feared the people; for they were aware that He had spoken this parable against them.And so they watched Him closely, and sent spies who pretended to be righteous, in order that they might catch Him in some statement, so that they could hand Him over to the jurisdiction and authority of the governor.And the spies questioned Him, saying,“ Teacher, we know that You speak and teach correctly, and You are not partial to anyone, but You teach the way of God on the basis of truth.Is it permissible for us to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”But He saw through their trickery and said to them,“ Show Me a denarius. Whose image and inscription does it have?” They said,“ Caesar’s.”And He said to them,“ Then pay to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”And they were unable to catch Him in a statement in the presence of the people; and they were amazed at His answer, and said nothing.

And the chief priests started accusing Him of many things.

The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His servant Jesus, the one whom you handed over and disowned in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release Him.

And they began to bring charges against Him, saying,“ We found this man misleading our nation and forbidding us to pay taxes to Caesar, and saying that He Himself is Christ, a King.”Now Pilate asked Him, saying,“ So You are the King of the Jews?” And He answered him and said,“ It is as you say.”But Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds,“ I find no grounds for charges in the case of this man.”But they kept on insisting, saying,“ He is stirring up the people, teaching all over Judea, starting from Galilee, as far as this place!”
