They answered him,“ If this man weren’t a criminal, we wouldn’t have handed Him over to you.”

他們回答說：「這個人如果不是作惡的，我們就不會把他交給你了。」

對曰、彼若非行惡者、我儕則不付於爾矣、

對曰、無罪、則不解與爾、

答曰、彼若非犯罪、則不解於爾、

眾應曰：『苟非惡類、必不解之爾前。』

“ If he were not a criminal,” they replied,“ we would not have handed him over to you.”

“ He has committed crimes,” they replied.“ If he hadn’t, we would not have handed him over to you.”

They answered him,“ If this man were not doing evil, we would not have delivered him over to you.”

“ We wouldn’t have handed him over to you if he weren’t a criminal!” they retorted.

They answered him,“ If this man weren’t a criminal, we wouldn’t have handed him over to you.”

They answered and said to him,“ If this Man were not a criminal, we would not have handed Him over to you.”

They answered and said to him,“ If He were not an evildoer, we would not have delivered Him up to you.”

They answered and said unto him, If this man were not an evil- doer, we should not have delivered him up unto thee.

They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee.

They replied,“ If this man were not a criminal, we would not have handed him over to you.”

They answered him,“ If this man weren’t an evildoer, we wouldn’t have delivered him up to you.”

“ Listen! We are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn Him to death. Then they will hand Him over to the Gentiles,

saying,‘ The Son of Man must be betrayed into the hands of sinful men, be crucified, and rise on the third day’?”

From that moment Pilate made every effort to release Him. But the Jews shouted,“ If you release this man, you are not Caesar’s friend. Anyone who makes himself a king opposes Caesar!”

Then the scribes and the chief priests looked for a way to get their hands on Him that very hour, because they knew He had told this parable against them, but they feared the people.They watched closely and sent spies who pretended to be righteous, so they could catch Him in what He said, to hand Him over to the governor’s rule and authority.They questioned Him,“ Teacher, we know that You speak and teach correctly, and You don’t show partiality, but teach truthfully the way of God.Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”But detecting their craftiness, He said to them,“ Show Me a denarius. Whose image and inscription does it have?”“ Caesar’s,” they said.“ Well then,” He told them,“ give back to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and to God the things that are God’s.”They were not able to catch Him in what He said in public, and being amazed at His answer, they became silent.

And the chief priests began to accuse Him of many things.

The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His Servant Jesus, whom you handed over and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release Him.

They began to accuse Him, saying,“ We found this man subverting our nation, opposing payment of taxes to Caesar, and saying that He Himself is the Messiah, a King.”So Pilate asked Him,“ Are You the King of the Jews?” He answered him,“ You have said it.”Pilate then told the chief priests and the crowds,“ I find no grounds for charging this man.”But they kept insisting,“ He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, from Galilee where He started even to here.”
