Also you must never build houses, sow seed or plant vineyards; you must never have any of these things, but must always live in tents. Then you will live a long time in the land where you are nomads.’

因為第一條帶著應許的誡命就是：「要孝敬父母，使你在世上蒙祝福、享長壽。」

孩子們漸漸長大，以掃擅長狩獵，常在田野活動；雅各生來安靜，喜歡待在家裡。

「要孝敬父母，以便在你的上帝耶和華賜給你的土地上享長壽。

不要醉酒，醉酒會使人放蕩，要被聖靈充滿。

他憑信心像異鄉人一樣寄居在上帝應許給他的地方。他住在帳篷裡，與同受一個應許的以撒和雅各一樣。因為他盼望的是一座有根基的城，是由上帝設計、建造的。撒拉過了生育年齡後憑信心仍然得到了孕育後代的能力，因為她認定賜她應許的上帝言出必行。所以，從一個垂暮之年的人生出許多子孫，好像天上的星、海邊的沙那麼多。這些人到死都滿懷信心。他們雖然沒有得到上帝所應許的，卻從遠處望見了，就歡喜快樂，承認自己在世上不過是寄居的異鄉人。

親愛的弟兄姊妹，你們是客旅，是寄居的，我勸你們要禁戒與靈魂為敵的邪情私慾。

你們要搭棚居住七天，所有以色列人都要住在棚裡。這樣，你們的後代就會知道，我帶領以色列人離開埃及後，曾讓他們住在棚裡。我是你們的上帝耶和華。」

我們住帳篷，遵守我們祖先約拿達的一切吩咐。

當時，他們發現耶和華藉摩西吩咐的律法上記載，以色列人要在七月節期期間住在棚子裡，並且要在他們的各城邑和耶路撒冷宣佈：「你們要上山取橄欖樹、野橄欖樹、番石榴樹、棕櫚樹和其他茂密樹木的枝子，照著所規定的搭棚。」於是，民眾都出去取來樹枝，在自家的屋頂上、庭院裡、上帝殿的院子裡、水門的廣場上和以法蓮門的廣場上搭棚。
