From the east I summon a bird of prey; from a far- off land, a man to fulfill my purpose. What I have said, that I will bring about; what I have planned, that I will do.

“ God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?

The Lord of hosts has sworn, saying,“ Surely, as I have thought, so it shall come to pass, And as I have purposed, so it shall stand:That I will break the Assyrian in My land, And on My mountains tread him underfoot. Then his yoke shall be removed from them, And his burden removed from their shoulders.This is the purpose that is purposed against the whole earth, And this is the hand that is stretched out over all the nations.For the Lord of hosts has purposed, And who will annul it? His hand is stretched out, And who will turn it back?”

“ But He is unique, and who can make Him change? And whatever His soul desires, that He does.

“ Who raised up one from the east? Who in righteousness called him to His feet? Who gave the nations before him, And made him rule over kings? Who gave them as the dust to his sword, As driven stubble to his bow?

“ All of you, assemble yourselves, and hear! Who among them has declared these things? The Lord loves him; He shall do His pleasure on Babylon, And His arm shall be against the Chaldeans.I, even I, have spoken; Yes, I have called him, I have brought him, and his way will prosper.

Your testimonies also are my delight And my counselors.

“ What shall I say? He has both spoken to me, And He Himself has done it. I shall walk carefully all my years In the bitterness of my soul.

In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will,

Thus says Cyrus king of Persia: All the kingdoms of the earth the Lord God of heaven has given me. And He has commanded me to build Him a house at Jerusalem which is in Judah.

A tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together! The Lord of hosts musters The army for battle.

Surely the wrath of man shall praise You; With the remainder of wrath You shall gird Yourself.

Therefore hear the counsel of the Lord that He has taken against Babylon, And His purposes that He has proposed against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out; Surely He will make their dwelling place desolate with them.

I have raised him up in righteousness, And I will direct all his ways; He shall build My city And let My exiles go free, Not for price nor reward,” Says the Lord of hosts.

“ Call together the archers against Babylon. All you who bend the bow, encamp against it all around; Let none of them escape. Repay her according to her work; According to all she has done, do to her; For she has been proud against the Lord, Against the Holy One of Israel.

“ You are My battle-ax and weapons of war: For with you I will break the nation in pieces; With you I will destroy kingdoms;With you I will break in pieces the horse and its rider; With you I will break in pieces the chariot and its rider;With you also I will break in pieces man and woman; With you I will break in pieces old and young; With you I will break in pieces the young man and the maiden;With you also I will break in pieces the shepherd and his flock; With you I will break in pieces the farmer and his yoke of oxen; And with you I will break in pieces governors and rulers.“ And I will repay Babylon And all the inhabitants of Chaldea For all the evil they have done In Zion in your sight,” says the Lord.“ Behold, I am against you, O destroying mountain, Who destroys all the earth,” says the Lord.“ And I will stretch out My hand against you, Roll you down from the rocks, And make you a burnt mountain.They shall not take from you a stone for a corner Nor a stone for a foundation, But you shall be desolate forever,” says the Lord.Set up a banner in the land, Blow the trumpet among the nations! Prepare the nations against her, Call the kingdoms together against her: Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz. Appoint a general against her; Cause the horses to come up like the bristling locusts.Prepare against her the nations, With the kings of the Medes, Its governors and all its rulers, All the land of his dominion.And the land will tremble and sorrow; For every purpose of the Lord shall be performed against Babylon, To make the land of Babylon a desolation without inhabitant.

And he saw a chariot with a pair of horsemen, A chariot of donkeys, and a chariot of camels, And he listened earnestly with great care.Then he cried,“ A lion, my Lord! I stand continually on the watchtower in the daytime; I have sat at my post every night.And look, here comes a chariot of men with a pair of horsemen!” Then he answered and said,“ Babylon is fallen, is fallen! And all the carved images of her gods He has broken to the ground.”

Who says of Cyrus,‘ He is My shepherd, And he shall perform all My pleasure, Saying to Jerusalem,“ You shall be built,” And to the temple,“ Your foundation shall be laid.”’“ Thus says the Lord to His anointed, To Cyrus, whose right hand I have held— To subdue nations before him And loose the armor of kings, To open before him the double doors, So that the gates will not be shut:‘ I will go before you And make the crooked places straight; I will break in pieces the gates of bronze And cut the bars of iron.I will give you the treasures of darkness And hidden riches of secret places, That you may know that I, the Lord, Who call you by your name, Am the God of Israel.For Jacob My servant’s sake, And Israel My elect, I have even called you by your name; I have named you, though you have not known Me.I am the Lord, and there is no other; There is no God besides Me. I will gird you, though you have not known Me,That they may know from the rising of the sun to its setting That there is none besides Me. I am the Lord, and there is no other;

You shall fall upon the mountains of Israel, you and all your troops and the peoples who are with you; I will give you to birds of prey of every sort and to the beasts of the field to be devoured.
