Hear me, you heavens! Listen, earth! For the Lord has spoken:“ I reared children and brought them up, but they have rebelled against me.

Hear, you peoples, all of you; Listen carefully, earth and all it contains, And may the Lord God be a witness against you, The Lord from His holy temple.

“ Listen, you heavens, and I will speak; And let the earth hear the words of my mouth!

I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have placed before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants,

I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today, that you will certainly perish quickly from the land where you are going over the Jordan to take possession of it. You will not live long on it, but will be utterly destroyed.

He summons the heavens above, And the earth, to judge His people:

O land, land, land, Hear the word of the Lord!

“ ‘ A son honors his father, and a servant his master. Then if I am a father, where is My honor? And if I am a master, where is My respect?’ says the Lord of armies to you, the priests who despise My name! But you say,‘ How have we despised Your name?’

Hear this word which the Lord has spoken against you, sons of Israel, against the entire family which He brought up from the land of Egypt:

For this is a rebellious people, false sons, Sons who refuse to listen To the instruction of the Lord;

“ Listen to Me, house of Jacob, And all the remnant of the house of Israel, You who have been carried by Me from birth And have been carried from the womb;Even to your old age I will be the same, And even to your graying years I will carry you! I have done it, and I will bear you; And I will carry you and I will save you.

Hear now what the Lord is saying,“ Arise, plead your case before the mountains, And let the hills hear your voice.Listen, you mountains, to the indictment by the Lord, And you enduring foundations of the earth, Because the Lord has a case against His people; And He will dispute with Israel.

Therefore, you mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord God. This is what the Lord God says to the mountains and to the hills, to the ravines and to the valleys, to the desolate ruins and to the abandoned cities which have become plunder and an object of ridicule to the rest of the nations which are all around—

I have spread out My hands all day long to a rebellious people, Who walk in the way which is not good, following their own thoughts,

“ Woe to the rebellious children,” declares the Lord,“ Who execute a plan, but not Mine, And make an alliance, but not of My Spirit, In order to add sin to sin;

On the other hand, I am filled with power— With the Spirit of the Lord— And with justice and courage To make known to Jacob his rebellious act, And to Israel his sin.

“ When I passed by you and saw you squirming in your blood, I said to you while you were in your blood,‘ Live!’ Yes, I said to you while you were in your blood,‘ Live!’I made you very numerous, like plants of the field. Then you grew up, became tall and reached the age for fine jewelry; your breasts were formed and your hair had grown. Yet you were naked and bare.“ Then I passed by you and saw you, and behold, you were at the time for love; so I spread My garment over you and covered your nakedness. I also swore an oath to you and entered into a covenant with you so that you became Mine,” declares the Lord God.“ Then I bathed you with water, washed off your blood from you, and anointed you with oil.I also clothed you with colorfully woven cloth and put sandals of fine leather on your feet; and I wrapped you with fine linen and covered you with silk.I adorned you with jewelry, put bracelets on your wrists, and a necklace around your neck.I also put a ring in your nose, earrings in your ears, and a beautiful crown on your head.So you were adorned with gold and silver, and your dress was of fine linen, silk, and colorfully woven cloth. You ate fine flour, honey, and oil; so you were exceedingly beautiful and advanced to royalty.Then your fame spread among the nations on account of your beauty, for it was perfect because of My splendor which I bestowed on you,” declares the Lord God.

and in the wilderness where you saw how the Lord your God carried you, just as a man carries his son, on all of the road which you have walked until you came to this place.’

They will come with weeping, And by pleading I will bring them; I will lead them by streams of waters, On a straight path on which they will not stumble; For I am a father to Israel, And Ephraim is My firstborn.”

For what great nation is there that has a god so near to it as is the Lord our God whenever we call on Him?Or what great nation is there that has statutes and judgments as righteous as this whole Law which I am setting before you today?

Let me sing now for my beloved A song of my beloved about His vineyard. My beloved had a vineyard on a fertile hill.He dug it all around, cleared it of stones, And planted it with the choicest vine. And He built a tower in the middle of it, And also carved out a wine vat in it; Then He expected it to produce good grapes, But it produced only worthless ones.

Hear, earth: behold, I am bringing disaster on this people, The fruit of their plans, Because they have not listened to My words, And as for My Law, they have rejected it also.

In all their distress He was distressed, And the angel of His presence saved them; In His love and in His mercy He redeemed them, And He lifted them and carried them all the days of old.But they rebelled And grieved His Holy Spirit; Therefore He turned Himself to become their enemy, He fought against them.

Listen and pay attention, do not be haughty; For the Lord has spoken.

“ Then at Taberah, at Massah, and at Kibroth hattaavah you kept provoking the Lord to anger.And when the Lord sent you from Kadesh barnea, saying,‘ Go up and take possession of the land which I have given you,’ you rebelled against the command of the Lord your God; you neither trusted Him nor listened to His voice.You have been rebellious toward the Lord since the day I knew you.

But you came and defiled My land, And you made My inheritance an abomination.The priests did not say,‘ Where is the Lord?’ And those who handle the Law did not know Me; The rulers also revolted against Me, And the prophets prophesied by Baal And walked after things that were of no benefit.“ Therefore I will still contend with you,” declares the Lord,“ And I will contend with your sons’ sons.For cross to the coastlands of Kittim and see, And send to Kedar and observe closely, And see if there has been anything like this!Has a nation changed gods, When they were not gods? But My people have exchanged their glory For that which is of no benefit.Be appalled at this, you heavens, And shudder, be very desolate,” declares the Lord.“ For My people have committed two evils: They have abandoned Me, The fountain of living waters, To carve out for themselves cisterns, Broken cisterns That do not hold water.

and say to them,‘ This is what the Lord God says:“ On the day when I chose Israel and swore to the descendants of the house of Jacob and made Myself known to them in the land of Egypt, when I swore to them, saying, I am the Lord your God,on that day I swore to them, to bring them out from the land of Egypt into a land that I had selected for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all the lands.And I said to them,‘ Throw away, each of you, the detestable things of his eyes, and do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt; I am the Lord your God.’But they rebelled against Me and were not willing to listen to Me; they did not throw away, each of them, the detestable things of their eyes, nor did they abandon the idols of Egypt.“ Then I resolved to pour out My wrath on them, to use up My anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.But I acted for the sake of My name, that it would not be defiled in the sight of the nations among whom they lived, in whose sight I made Myself known to them by bringing them out of the land of Egypt.So I took them out of the land of Egypt and brought them into the wilderness.I gave them My statutes and informed them of My ordinances, which, if a person follows them, then he will live by them.Also I gave them My Sabbaths to be a sign between Me and them, so that they might know that I am the Lord who sanctifies them.But the house of Israel rebelled against Me in the wilderness. They did not walk in My statutes and they rejected My ordinances, which, if a person follows them, then he will live by them; and they greatly profaned My Sabbaths. Then I resolved to pour out My wrath on them in the wilderness, to annihilate them.But I acted for the sake of My name, so that it would not be defiled before the eyes of the nations, before whose eyes I had brought them out.Also I swore to them in the wilderness that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all the lands,because they rejected My ordinances, and as for My statutes, they did not walk in them; they also profaned My Sabbaths, because their heart continually followed their idols.Yet My eye spared them rather than destroying them, and I did not bring about their annihilation in the wilderness.“ Instead, I said to their children in the wilderness,‘ Do not walk in the statutes of your fathers or keep their ordinances or defile yourselves with their idols.I am the Lord your God; walk in My statutes and keep My ordinances and follow them.Sanctify My Sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between Me and you, so that you may know that I am the Lord your God.’But the children rebelled against Me; they did not walk in My statutes, nor were they careful to follow My ordinances which, if a person follows them, then he will live by them; they profaned My Sabbaths. So I resolved to pour out My wrath on them, to use up My anger against them in the wilderness.But I withdrew My hand and acted for the sake of My name, so that it would not be defiled in the sight of the nations in whose sight I had brought them out.Also I swore to them in the wilderness that I would scatter them among the nations and disperse them among the lands,because they had not complied with My ordinances, but had rejected My statutes and had profaned My Sabbaths, and their eyes were on the idols of their fathers.I also gave them statutes that were not good, and ordinances by which they could not live;and I pronounced them unclean because of their gifts, in that they made all their firstborn pass through the fire so that I might make them desolate, in order that they might know that I am the Lord.” ’“ Therefore speak to the house of Israel, son of man, and say to them,‘ This is what the Lord God says:“ Again, in this your fathers have blasphemed Me by being disloyal to Me.When I had brought them into the land which I swore to give to them, then they saw every high hill and every tree thick with branches, and there they offered their sacrifices and there they presented the provocation of their offering. There also they made their soothing aroma and there they poured out their drink offerings.Then I said to them,‘ What is the high place to which you go?’ So its name is called Bamah to this day.” ’Therefore, say to the house of Israel,‘ This is what the Lord God says:“ Will you defile yourselves in the way of your fathers and adulterously pursue their detestable things?And when you offer your gifts, when you make your sons pass through the fire, you are defiling yourselves with all your idols to this day. So shall I be inquired of by you, house of Israel? As I live,” declares the Lord God,“ I certainly will not be inquired of by you.And whatever comes into your mind certainly will not come about, when you say:‘ We will be like the nations, like the families of the lands, serving wood and stone.’

for we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard.”

who are Israelites, to whom belongs the adoption as sons and daughters, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the Law, the temple service, and the promises;whose are the fathers, and from whom is the Christ according to the flesh, who is over all, God blessed forever. Amen.

Then what advantage does the Jew have? Or what is the benefit of circumcision?Great in every respect. First, that they were entrusted with the actual words of God.
