I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted.

The Lord answered his prayer, and his wife Rebekah became pregnant.The babies jostled each other within her, and she said,“ Why is this happening to me?” So she went to inquire of the Lord.The Lord said to her,“ Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you will be separated; one people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger.”When the time came for her to give birth, there were twin boys in her womb.The first to come out was red, and his whole body was like a hairy garment; so they named him Esau.After this, his brother came out, with his hand grasping Esau’s heel; so he was named Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when Rebekah gave birth to them.The boys grew up, and Esau became a skillful hunter, a man of the open country, while Jacob was content to stay at home among the tents.Isaac, who had a taste for wild game, loved Esau, but Rebekah loved Jacob.Once when Jacob was cooking some stew, Esau came in from the open country, famished.He said to Jacob,“ Quick, let me have some of that red stew! I’m famished!”( That is why he was also called Edom.)Jacob replied,“ First sell me your birthright.”“ Look, I am about to die,” Esau said.“ What good is the birthright to me?”But Jacob said,“ Swear to me first.” So he swore an oath to him, selling his birthright to Jacob.Then Jacob gave Esau some bread and some lentil stew. He ate and drank, and then got up and left. So Esau despised his birthright. (niv)

Abraham will surely become a great and powerful nation, and all nations on earth will be blessed through him. (niv)

The people of Judah and Israel were as numerous as the sand on the seashore; they ate, they drank and they were happy. (niv)

After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. (niv)

The Lord your God has increased your numbers so that today you are as numerous as the stars in the sky. (niv)

“ I am God, the God of your father,” he said.“ Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you into a great nation there. (niv)

And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: I will surely bless him; I will make him fruitful and will greatly increase his numbers. He will be the father of twelve rulers, and I will make him into a great nation. (niv)

May God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and increase your numbers until you become a community of peoples. (niv)

Their enrollment by families was as follows: From Judah, commanders of units of 1,000: Adnah the commander, with 300,000 fighting men;next, Jehohanan the commander, with 280,000;next, Amasiah son of Zikri, who volunteered himself for the service of the Lord, with 200,000.From Benjamin: Eliada, a valiant soldier, with 200,000 men armed with bows and shields;next, Jehozabad, with 180,000 men armed for battle. And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore. (niv)

These sons of Seir in Edom were Horite chiefs.The sons of Lotan: Hori and Homam. Timna was Lotan’s sister.The sons of Shobal: Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho and Onam.The sons of Zibeon: Aiah and Anah. His city was named Avith.When Hadad died, Samlah from Masrekah succeeded him as king.When Samlah died, Shaul from Rehoboth on the river succeeded him as king.When Shaul died, Baal-Hanan son of Akbor succeeded him as king.When Baal-Hanan son of Akbor died, Hadad succeeded him as king. His city was named Pau, and his wife’s name was Mehetabel daughter of Matred, the daughter of Me-Zahab.These were the chiefs descended from Esau, by name, according to their clans and regions: Timna, Alvah, Jetheth,Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon,Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar,Magdiel and Iram. These were the chiefs of Edom, according to their settlements in the land they occupied. This is the family line of Esau, the father of the Edomites. (niv)

Joab reported the number of the fighting men to David: In all Israel there were one million one hundred thousand men who could handle a sword, including four hundred and seventy thousand in Judah. (niv)

I will make the descendants of David my servant and the Levites who minister before me as countless as the stars in the sky and as measureless as the sand on the seashore.’” (niv)

I will bless her and will surely give you a son by her. I will bless her so that she will be the mother of nations; kings of peoples will come from her.” (niv)

Whenever the Israelites planted their crops, the Midianites, Amalekites and other eastern peoples invaded the country. (niv)

Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring— not only to those who are of the law but also to those who have the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all.As it is written:“ I have made you a father of many nations.” He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed— the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not.Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him,“ So shall your offspring be.” (niv)

but the Israelites were exceedingly fruitful; they multiplied greatly, increased in numbers and became so numerous that the land was filled with them. (niv)

I will make you very fruitful; I will make nations of you, and kings will come from you. (niv)
