就對亞伯拉罕說：「趕走這婢女和她的兒子，因為這婢女的兒子不可和我的兒子以撒一同承受產業。」亞伯拉罕因兒子以實瑪利的事非常煩惱。上帝對亞伯拉罕說：「你不要再為這孩子和你的婢女煩惱，只管照撒拉的意思去做，因為以撒生的才可算為你的後代。

奴隸不能永遠留在主人的家裡，只有兒子才可以。

你們接受的聖靈不是使你們做奴隸，仍舊害怕，而是使你們做兒子，可以稱上帝為「阿爸，父親」。聖靈親自與我們的心一同見證我們是上帝的兒女。既然我們是兒女，就是繼承人，是上帝的後嗣，並且與基督同作後嗣。所以，如果現在我們和基督一同受苦，將來也必和祂一同得榮耀。

這該怎麼說呢？以色列人努力追求，卻一無所得，只有蒙揀選的人得到了，其他的人都變得頑固不化。正如聖經上說：「上帝使他們至今心智昏迷，眼睛看不見，耳朵聽不到。」大衛也說：「願他們的宴席成為網羅、陷阱、絆腳石，給他們帶來報應；願他們眼目昏暗，無法看見，永遠彎腰駝背。」那麼，以色列人一失足就再也爬不起來了嗎？當然不是！恰好相反，因他們的過犯，救恩臨到了外族人，使他們心生嫉妒。

但聖經說所有的人都在罪的權勢下，爲要使那些相信的人因爲相信耶穌基督而得到應許。

上帝並沒有放棄祂預先揀選的子民。你們不知道聖經上有關以利亞先知的記載嗎？他在上帝面前控告以色列人，說：

聖經早就指明，上帝要叫外族人因信而被稱為義人，祂預先將福音傳給亞伯拉罕，說：「萬國必因你而蒙福。」

聖經上不是說「亞伯拉罕信上帝，就被算為義人」嗎？

聖經上說：「上帝所賜、住在我們心裡的聖靈深願我們完全屬於祂。」你們以為這是空談嗎？
