然婢女之子、乃因肉情而生；而主婦之子、則憑恩諾而生。

His son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh, but his son by the free woman was born as the result of a divine promise.

Abraham’s son by the slave woman was born in the usual way. But his son by the free woman was born because of God’s promise.

But the son of the slave was born according to the flesh, while the son of the free woman was born through promise.

The son of the slave wife was born in a human attempt to bring about the fulfillment of God’s promise. But the son of the freeborn wife was born as God’s own fulfillment of his promise.

撒拉有信、雖老、上帝賜之懷妊誕育、以為所許者言出惟行、

為亞伯拉罕裔者、不得盡為嗣子、經云、惟出自以撒者、得謂爾裔焉、是亞伯拉罕身生眾子、不得盡為上帝眾子、惟所許之眾子、可為裔明矣、

耶和華眷顧撒拉、踐其前言、應其所許。故亞伯拉罕年雖耄耋、而撒拉懷妊、屆上帝所言之期、誕生男子。

其中一人曰、明年屆期、我必復至、爾妻撒拉將生子。撒拉在後、於幕門聞此。亞伯拉罕與撒拉俱年邁、撒拉癸水已絕、故竊哂曰、我老矣、我主亦然、豈復有生子之樂乎。耶和華謂亞伯拉罕曰、撒拉曷竊哂歟、何疑年老不生育乎。豈耶和華而有難行之事哉。明年屆期、我必復至、撒拉必生子。

兄弟乎、我儕亦猶以撒、得應許而為子、昔循人道而生者、窘逐依神道而生者、今亦如是、

亞伯拉罕本絕望、因信而有望、得為萬民父、如上帝云、爾之後裔、將若星然、信之即篤、雖近百齡、血氣衰、弗顧也、雖撒拉絕孕、亦弗顧也、絕不疑上帝所應許、稍懷不信心、惟信彌篤、歸榮上帝、其信之篤者、以上帝所許、終必能成也、

上帝又謂亞伯拉罕曰、厥後爾妻不稱撒勑、乃以撒拉稱之。我將錫嘏、賜之生子、為群民母、列王由之出。亞伯拉罕俯伏竊哂、私自思維、謂我已期頤、撒拉年亦九十、烏能生育。亞伯拉罕求上帝曰、願以實馬利於爾前、得保其生、幸矣。上帝曰、爾妻撒拉、果必生子、命名以撒、我將與以撒、及其後裔、立永約。
