然婢女之子、乃因肉情而生；而主婦之子、則憑恩諾而生。

His son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh, but his son by the free woman was born as the result of a divine promise.

Abraham’s son by the slave woman was born in the usual way. But his son by the free woman was born because of God’s promise.

But the son of the slave was born according to the flesh, while the son of the free woman was born through promise.

The son of the slave wife was born in a human attempt to bring about the fulfillment of God’s promise. But the son of the freeborn wife was born as God’s own fulfillment of his promise.

But the one by the slave was born as a result of the flesh, while the one by the free woman was born through promise.

But the son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh, and the son by the free woman through the promise.

But he who was of the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, and he of the freewoman through promise,

撒拉過了生育年齡後憑信心仍然得到了孕育後代的能力，因為她認定賜她應許的上帝言出必行。

亞伯拉罕的後裔不一定都是亞伯拉罕的兒女，聖經上說：「以撒生的才可算為你的後裔。」這話的意思是：亞伯拉罕憑血氣所生的兒女並不是上帝的兒女，只有憑應許所生的才算是他的後裔。

耶和華按著自己說過的話眷顧撒拉，實現給她的應許。亞伯拉罕年老的時候，撒拉懷了孕，在上帝指定的日期為他生了一個兒子。

其中一人說：「明年這時候，我會再來你這裡，撒拉必生一個兒子。」這話被站在那人後面帳篷口的撒拉聽見了。亞伯拉罕和撒拉已經年紀老邁，撒拉的月經也已經停了。撒拉暗自發笑，心想：「我已經這麼老了，還會有這種福氣嗎？況且我的丈夫也很老了。」耶和華問亞伯拉罕：「撒拉為什麼偷笑說，『我這把年紀還會有孩子嗎？』什麼事難得住耶和華呢？明年這時候，我會再來你這裡，撒拉必生一個兒子。」

弟兄姊妹，你們都像以撒一樣是照著上帝的應許出生的。當時，那按著人的意願生的兒子迫害那靠著聖靈生的兒子，現在的情況也和當時一樣。

他在毫無指望的情況下仍然滿懷盼望地相信上帝的應許，因而成為「萬族之父」，正如上帝的應許：「你的後裔必這麼多」。那時他將近百歲，知道自己身體如同已死，撒拉也過了生育的歲數，但他的信心仍然沒有動搖。他沒有因不信而懷疑上帝的應許，反倒信心更加堅定，將榮耀歸給上帝。他完全相信上帝必能實現祂的應許。

上帝對亞伯拉罕說：「你的妻子以後不要叫撒萊，她的名字要叫撒拉。我必賜福給她，讓她為你生一個兒子。她必成為萬族的母親，萬民的君王必從她而出。」亞伯拉罕就俯伏在地，笑了起來，心想：「我一百歲了，還能有孩子嗎？撒拉已經九十歲了，還能生養嗎？」亞伯拉罕對上帝說：「願以實瑪利蒙你賜福。」上帝說：「不，你妻子撒拉必為你生一個兒子，你要給他取名叫以撒，我必向他和他的後代堅守我的約，直到永遠。

其實這裡是說：「這道近在咫尺，就在你口裡，在你心中。」這道就是我們所傳的信主之道。
