「有一隻大鷹，翅膀大，羽毛多。看哪，葡萄樹從栽種它的苗圃向這鷹伸出根來，長出枝子，期盼從牠得到澆灌。

只是王不可為自己加添馬匹，也不可為加添馬匹使百姓回埃及去，因耶和華曾對你們說：『不可再回那條路去。』

你若不歸順巴比倫王的官長，這城必交在迦勒底人手中。他們必用火焚燒，你也不得脫離他們的手。」

你必不能逃脫他的手，定被拿住，交在他手中。你要親眼看到巴比倫王，他要親口跟你說話，你也必到巴比倫去。

因此，耶和華向耶路撒冷和猶大發怒，以致把他們從自己面前趕出去。西底家背叛巴比倫王，

他輕看誓言，背棄盟約，看哪，雖已投降，卻又做這一切的事，他必不能逃脫。

「人必將你的后妃和你的兒女帶到迦勒底人那裏；你也不得脫離他們的手，必被巴比倫王的手捉住，這城也必被火焚燒。」

你要說，主耶和華如此說：這棵葡萄樹豈能發旺呢？鷹豈不拔出它的根來，摘光它的果子，使它枯乾，連長出的嫩葉都枯萎了嗎？要把它連根拔除，並不需要費大力或動用許多人。

法老的軍隊已經從埃及出來，那圍困耶路撒冷的迦勒底人聽見這風聲，就拔營離開耶路撒冷去了。耶和華的話臨到耶利米先知，說：「耶和華－以色列的上帝如此說：你們要對派你們來求問我的猶大王如此說：『看哪，那出來幫助你們的法老軍隊必回埃及本國去。

猶大王西底家必不能逃脫迦勒底人的手，定要交在巴比倫王手中，他要親眼看到巴比倫王，親口跟他說話。

你這褻瀆行惡的以色列王啊，你的日子，最後懲罰的時刻已來臨。

我們若忽略這麼大的救恩，怎能逃避呢？這拯救起先是主親自講的，後來是聽見的人給我們證實了。

為要使你進入耶和華－你上帝的約，就是耶和華－你上帝今日向你起誓所立的；這樣，他今日要立你作他的子民，他作你的上帝，是照他向你所應許的，又照他向你列祖亞伯拉罕、以撒、雅各所起的誓。我不單單與你們立這約，起這誓，就是今日與我們一同站在耶和華－我們上帝面前的，而且也包括今日不在我們這裏的人。

耶和華說：「禍哉！這悖逆的兒女。他們同謀，卻不出於我，結盟，卻不出於我的靈，以致罪上加罪。他們沒有尋求我的指示，就起身下埃及去，要倚靠法老的庇護堅固自己，並投在埃及的蔭下。但法老的庇護反成為你們的羞辱；你們投在埃及蔭下，反使你們慚愧。他們的領袖已在瑣安，他們的使臣到了哈內斯。

上帝啊，你必使惡人墜入滅亡的坑；那好流人血、行詭詐的人必活不過半生，但我要倚靠你。

禍哉！那些下埃及求幫助的，他們仰賴馬匹，倚靠甚多的戰車，並倚靠強壯的騎兵，卻不仰望以色列的聖者，也不求問耶和華。其實，耶和華有智慧，他降災禍，並不撤回自己的話，卻要興起攻擊作惡之家，攻擊那幫助人作惡的。埃及人不過是人，並非上帝，他們的馬不過是血肉，並不是靈。耶和華一伸手，那幫助人的必絆跌，受幫助的也必跌倒，都一同滅亡。

地啊，地啊，地啊，當聽耶和華的話！耶和華如此說：「要把這人登記為無子，是平生不得亨通的人；因為他後裔中再無一人得亨通，能坐在大衛的寶座上治理猶大。」

你們這些蛇啊，毒蛇的孽種啊，怎能逃脫地獄的懲罰呢？

作假見證的，難免受罰；口吐謊言的，不能逃脫。

看哪，你所倚靠的埃及是那斷裂的葦杖，人若倚靠這杖，它就刺進他的手，穿透它。埃及王法老向所有倚靠他的人都是這樣。你若對我說：我們倚靠耶和華－我們的上帝，希西家豈不是將上帝的丘壇和祭壇廢去，且吩咐猶大和耶路撒冷的人說：你們只當在這一個壇前敬拜嗎？現在你與我主亞述王打賭，我給你兩千匹馬，看你能否派得出騎士來騎牠們。若不然，怎能使我主臣僕中最小的一個軍官轉臉而逃呢？你難道要倚靠埃及的戰車和騎兵嗎？
