你必逃不出巴比倫王的手心，你必在他面前受審，被帶到巴比倫。

因此，耶和華向耶路撒冷和猶大的人發怒，把他們從祂面前趕走。後來，西底迦背叛了巴比倫王。

他起誓降服，卻棄約背誓，所以絕不能逃避後果。

「你的嬪妃和兒女必被交給迦勒底人，你也逃不掉，必被巴比倫王所擒。這城也要被付之一炬。」

「你要告訴他們，主耶和華這樣說，『這樹能長得枝繁葉茂嗎？難道那鷹不把它連根拔起，摘掉它的果子，使樹和嫩葉全部枯萎嗎？不必費多大力氣，也不需要多少人就可以把它連根拔起。

那時，法老的軍隊已從埃及出發，正在圍攻耶路撒冷的迦勒底人聽見消息就退兵了。耶和華對耶利米先知說：「這是以色列的上帝耶和華的話，『猶大王派你們來求問我，你們告訴他，前來支援你們的法老軍隊必中途返回埃及，

猶大王西底迦逃不出迦勒底人的手，必成為巴比倫王的階下囚，被他審問、

你這邪惡敗壞的以色列首領啊！你的結局到了，審判你的日子來了。』

我們若忽略了這麼大的救恩，怎能逃避懲罰呢？這救恩首先由主親口宣講出來，後來由聽見的人向我們證實了。

為要接受你們的上帝耶和華與你們立的誓約。這樣，祂今天將宣告你們是祂的子民、祂是你們的上帝，正如祂對你們的應許和對你們祖先亞伯拉罕、以撒和雅各的誓言。耶和華的這誓約不僅是與你們立的，也是與今天一同站在我們的上帝耶和華面前的人，以及今天不在這裡的人立的。

耶和華說：「我悖逆的兒女有禍了！他們不遵行我的旨意，按自己的計劃行事；未經我同意，擅自與人結盟，不斷犯罪。他們不求問我便去埃及，想得到法老的保護和蔭庇。然而，法老的保護和蔭庇必成為他們的恥辱。雖然他們的官長和使臣已到瑣安和哈內斯，

上帝啊，你必把惡人送進滅亡的坑裡。嗜血成性的騙子必早早夭亡。但我要信靠你。

那些到埃及尋求幫助的人有禍了！他們仰賴戰馬，倚靠眾多的戰車和強壯的騎兵，卻不仰望以色列的聖者，不尋求耶和華。然而，耶和華有智慧，會降災，從不收回自己的話。祂必懲罰惡人之家及其幫兇。埃及人不過是人，並非上帝；埃及的戰馬是血肉之軀，並非神靈。耶和華一伸手，那些幫兇必踉蹌，受幫助的必跌倒，他們必一同滅亡。

大地啊，大地啊，大地啊，要聽耶和華的話！耶和華說：「你要把這人作為無兒無女、一生失敗的人記錄下來，因為他的後裔中無一人能成功地繼承大衛的寶座，統治猶大。」

你們這些蛇，這些毒蛇的後代啊，你們怎能逃脫地獄的刑罰呢？

作偽證者難免受罰，撒謊的人罪責難逃。

看啊，你所倚靠的埃及不過是一根破裂的蘆葦，倚靠它的必被刺破手。倚靠埃及王法老的下場都是這樣。』也許你說，『我們倚靠我們的上帝耶和華。』希西迦不是拆毀了祂的廟宇和祭壇，又吩咐猶大和耶路撒冷的人只能在這座祭壇前敬拜嗎？來，跟我主人亞述王打個賭，你若能找到兩千騎士，我就給你兩千匹馬！你們即使依靠埃及的戰車和騎兵，又怎能打敗我主人的一個最小的將領呢？
