以斯拉便起來，使祭司領袖和利未人跟以色列眾人都起誓要照這話而行。他們就起誓。

如今你要聽我的話；我給你出個主意；願上帝和你同在；你要代表人民到上帝面前，將案件呈報上帝；

這位摩西的岳父葉忒羅便帶着摩西的妻子西坡拉來，就是摩西曾經打發她回去的；葉氏又帶着西坡拉的兩個兒子，一個名叫革舜，因為摩西說：『我在外人之地做了寄居的』；一個名叫以利以謝，因為他說：『我父親的上帝是幫助我的，他援救了我脫離法老的刀』。摩西的岳父葉忒羅和摩西的妻子跟兩個兒子、來到上帝的山、就是摩西在曠野紮營的地方、要見摩西。

屬以攔的子孫、耶歇的兒子示迦尼應時對以斯拉說：『我們娶此地別族之民的外籍女人為妻，對我們的上帝不忠實了；但現在呢、對於這事以色列人還是有希望。

眼睛不能對手說：『我不需要你』；頭也不能對腳說：『我不需要你』。

智慧人聽了，可以增長心得；明達人聽了，可以獲得技能，
