The nations will hear and tremble; anguish will grip the people of Philistia.

The nations will hear about it and tremble. Pain and suffering will take hold of the Philistines.

“ The people will hear and be afraid; Sorrow will take hold of the inhabitants of Philistia.

So be very careful;do not provoke them, for I will not give you any of their land, not even as much as a footprint, because I have given Mount Seir to Esau as a possession.

Wail, you gate; cry, you city; Melt away, Philistia, all of you! For smoke comes from the north, And there is no straggler in his ranks.

So he sent messengers to Balaam the son of Beor, at Pethor, which is near the Euphrates River, in the land of the sons of his people, to call for him, saying,“ Behold, a people came out of Egypt; behold, they have covered the surface of the land, and they are living opposite me.

Panic seized them there, Anguish, as that of a woman in childbirth.

“ Do not rejoice, Philistia, all of you, Because the rod that struck you is broken; For from the serpent’s root a viper will come out, And its fruit will be a winged serpent.
