God gives some people wealth, possessions and honor, so that they lack nothing their hearts desire, but God does not grant them the ability to enjoy them, and strangers enjoy them instead. This is meaningless, a grievous evil.

連你所沒有求的，我也賜給你，就是財富、尊榮，以至你一生的年日，在列王之中沒有一人能像你。

他們的罪孽是出於麻木的心（按照《馬索拉文本》，“他們的罪孽是出於麻木的心”應作“他們的眼睛因體胖而凸出”；現參照《七十士譯本》翻譯），他們心裡的惡念氾濫。

他們的家宅平安無懼，神的刑杖也不加在他們身上。他們的公牛交配而不落種，他們的母牛下犢而不掉胎，他們叫小孩子出去多如羊群，他們的年輕人四處跳躍；他們跟著琴鼓高歌，又因著簫的聲音歡樂。他們幸福度過他們的日子，一剎那間下陰間，毫無病痛。然而他們對神說：‘離開我們吧，我們不願意曉得你的道路。全能者是誰，竟要我們服事他呢？我們若向他懇求，有甚麼益處呢？’

然後，我要對我的靈魂說：靈魂啊，你擁有許多好東西，足夠多年享用，只管安安逸逸地吃喝快樂吧！’神卻對他說：‘無知的人哪，今天晚上，你的靈魂必被取去，你所預備的要歸給誰呢？’

有人孤單無依，沒有兒子，沒有兄弟，仍勞碌不休，眼目也不以自己的財富為足。他問：“我勞勞碌碌，刻薄自己不去享受，是為誰呢？”這也是虛空，是勞苦的擔子。

神對所羅門說：“你既然有這個心意：不求富足、財產、尊榮，也不求你敵人的性命，又不求長壽，只為自己求智慧和知識，好治理我的子民，就是我立你作王統治的人民，

你土地的出產和你勞碌得來的一切，都必被你不認識的民族吃盡；你必常常受壓迫和壓制；

他怎樣來，也要怎樣去，這也是令人痛心的憾事；他為風勞碌，有甚麼益處呢？

我們的產業轉歸外人，我們的房屋歸給異族。

我看見各樣的勞碌和各樣精巧的工作，都是出於人與人彼此的競爭。這也是虛空，也是捕風。

王啊！至高的神曾把國位、權勢、光榮和威嚴賜給你先祖尼布甲尼撒。

住在你中間的寄居者必漸漸高升，比你高而又高；你必漸漸下降，低而又低。

你們到了那裡的時候，你們必遇見安然居住的人民；那地的兩邊寬闊，神已經把那地交在你們手裡；那地百物俱全，一無所缺。”

大衛年紀老邁，壽數滿足，享盡富足和尊榮才去世；他的兒子所羅門接續他作王。

外族人吞吃了他的力量，他卻不知道；他頭上滿是白髮，他也不曉得。

我大事發展：為自己建造房屋，栽種葡萄園，修造園囿和庭園，在園中栽種各類果樹，挖造水池，用來澆灌培植樹木的林園。我買了僕婢，也有生在家中的奴僕；又擁有大群牛羊，勝過任何比我先在耶路撒冷的人所擁有的。我又為自己積蓄金銀，以及列王和各省的財寶。我又為自己招募男女歌手，收納許多妃嬪，是世人所以為樂的。於是我就日漸昌大，超過任何比我先在耶路撒冷的人；我的智慧仍然與我同在。我眼中所求的，我都不禁止；我心所喜歡的，我都沒抑制。我的心因我的一切勞碌而快樂，這就是我從一切勞碌中所得的分。

因為耶和華你的神快要領你進入那美地；那地有河流，有泉，有源，水從谷中和山上流出來；那地有小麥、大麥、葡萄樹、無花果樹、石榴樹；那地有橄欖樹、油和蜜；你在那地必不缺乏食物，在那裡你必一無所缺；那地的石頭就是鐵；從那裡的山上，你可以挖出銅來。你吃飽了，就要稱頌耶和華你的神，因為他把那美地賜了給你。

世人來來往往只是幻影，他們忙亂也是虛空；積聚財物，卻不知道誰要來收取。

耶和華使所羅門在以色列眾人面前非常尊大，又賜給他君王的威嚴，勝過在他以前所有的以色列王。
