所以，我憎恶生命，因为在日光之下所做的一切都令我愁烦。唉！这一切都是虚空，都是捕风。

我所以恨恶生命；因为在日光之下所行的事我都以为烦恼，都是虚空，都是捕风。

于是我恨恶生命，因为在日光之下所发生的事我都以为烦恼，全是虚空，全是捕风。

於是我恨惡生命，因為在日光之下所做的事，對我都是悲苦。是的，全是虛空，全是捕風！

我遂惡生、因於日下經營、乃為煩惱、悉屬虛空、莫非捕風、

斯世所為、殷憂慼慼、莫非捕風捉影、故我不樂其生。

我厭惡生命、因我見日下所作之事、皆不善、皆屬於虛、皆如捕風、

So I hated life, because the work that is done under the sun was grievous to me. All of it is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.

So I hated life. That’s because the work done on this earth made me sad. None of it has any meaning. It’s like chasing the wind.

So I hated life, because what is done under the sun was grievous to me, for all is vanity and a striving after wind.

So I came to hate life because everything done here under the sun is so troubling. Everything is meaningless— like chasing the wind.

Therefore, I hated life because the work that was done under the sun was distressing to me. For everything is futile and a pursuit of the wind.

So I hated life, for the work which had been done under the sun was unhappy to me; because everything is futility and striving after wind.

然而，当我回顾双手辛勤经营的一切成就时，唉，却发现都是虚空，都是捕风；日光之下的一切都毫无益处。

耶和华啊，求你收回我的性命吧，我死了比活着还好！”

太阳出来的时候，上帝刮起燥热的东风，烈日把约拿晒得发昏，他就再次求死说：“我死了比活着还好！”

以致我宁愿窒息而死，也不愿这样活着。我厌恶生命，不想永活。不要管我，因为我的日子都是虚空。

我观察一切日光之下所做的事，看啊，都是虚空，好像捕风。

但愿你把我藏在阴间，把我藏起来直到你息怒，定下眷顾我的日期。

我为那已死的人庆幸，因为他们比活着的人幸福。

满足于眼前所有的，胜过心中贪想的。这也是虚空，如同捕风。

你为何让我目睹罪恶？你为何容忍邪恶？我眼前尽是毁灭和暴力，到处是纷争和冲突。

世人在日光之下劳心劳力，究竟得到什么呢？

我处在两难之间。我情愿离开世界，与基督在一起，那实在是再好不过了。可是为了你们，我应该活在世上。我既然对此深信不疑，就知道自己仍要活下去，继续跟你们在一起，好使你们在信仰上又长进又充满喜乐。

你既然这样对待我，求你施恩杀了我吧，别让我受苦了！”

愿我出生的那天受咒诅！愿我母亲生我的那天不蒙祝福！愿那告诉我父亲喜得贵子、使他欢喜的人受咒诅！愿那人像被耶和华无情毁灭的城！愿他早晨听见哀鸣，中午听见战争的呐喊，因为他没有把我杀死在母腹中，没有使母腹成为我的坟墓，让我永远留在里面。为什么我要从母胎出来，经历患难和痛苦，在羞辱中度过一生呢？

灵把我举起带走了。我心里苦闷，充满愤怒，耶和华大能的手在我身上。

我又看到日光之下，即使在公道和正义之地也有邪恶。

愿你顾念我的生命何其短暂！你创造的世人何其虚幻！

“为何赐光给受苦的人，赐生命给心灵痛苦的人？他们等候死亡却等不到，他们求死胜于求宝藏。他们归入坟墓时非常快乐，欣喜若狂。

自己在旷野走了一天的路程，来到一棵罗腾树下，坐下来祷告求死，说：“耶和华啊，我受够了，求你取走我的性命吧，我不比我的祖先强。”
