They have been informed that you teach all the Jews who live among the Gentiles to turn away from Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children or live according to our customs.

且呼曰：『義塞人當起而相助！是即隨處教人蹂躪吾民、吾律及斯殿者也。今且引希臘人入殿、污斯聖所！』。

夫吾乃自由之人、眾人不得而奴焉；顧甘自為眾人之奴者何也、亦欲感化眾人、使最大多數棄邪歸正而已矣。故於猶太人、吾亦儼然以猶太人自居、所以感化猶太人也。於法內之人、吾亦儼然以法內之人自居、所以感化法內之人也；實則其法無與於我耳。於法外之人、吾亦儼然以法外之人自居、所以感化法外之人也；實則就天主及基督之妙法言之、吾亦法內之人耳。

越三日、葆樂邀集猶太人之首領既至、語之曰：『諸兄弟、予並未開罪於本國同胞、或違犯祖宗遺規、然竟在耶路撒冷縛解羅馬人之手、

夫基督之予吾人以解放也、其非欲吾人享受自由乎？故吾儕當確立不移、不宜妄自菲薄、復入奴隸之軛也。我葆樂剴切告爾、爾如承受割禮、則基督於爾為無益。不寧惟是、凡承受割禮者、即有遵行全部律法之義務。爾既欲求義於律法之中、則與基督絕緣、而自置於恩寵之外矣。蓋吾人惟恃聖神而起信心、始有成義之望耳。在基督道中、受割與否、無關宏旨、亦惟興於仁而立於信而已矣。

信未篤者、爾當俯就之、而莫與之爭辯。或者以為百物皆可食、而信未篤者、則非蔬不食。食者不得輕視不食者；不食者亦不得指摘食者。彼固天主之所容也；爾何人斯、乃敢指摘他氏之僕耶！彼之能立與否、惟對其主負責；矧其主固能使之立、詎見其終不立耶？有拘泥於日期者、有不拘者、亦各行其心之所安而已。彼守日者、為主而守之也。食者為主而食、且致謝於天主焉；齋戒者為主而齋戒、亦致謝於天主焉。

吾意異邦人之歸順天主者、吾人不當再強其所難；第遺書戒之、勿犯姦淫、勿食祭餘之物、勒死之牲、與牲畜之血。蓋摩西之書、已徧傳諸邑、每值禮日誦之會堂由來舊矣。』

設證以誣之曰：『律法與聖所、時為所謗；嘗聞其言納匝勒人耶穌將毀是地。摩西遺規、亦將更易。』

兄弟蒙召時已領割禮乎、則勿求恢復原狀。蒙召時未領割禮乎則終身勿割。割無益也、不割亦無益也；惟遵行天主誡命為有益耳。

葆樂欲攜之與俱、以是處猶太人咸知其父為希臘人、乃為之行割禮。
