And all the people were arguing throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying,“ The king delivered us from the hand of our enemies and saved us from the hand of the Philistines, and now he has fled out of the land from Absalom.

And throughout all the tribes of Israel there was much discussion and argument going on. The people were saying,“ The king rescued us from our enemies and saved us from the Philistines, but Absalom chased him out of the country.

此後，大衛攻打非利士人，制伏了他們。大衛從非利士人手中奪取了京城的治理權。他又攻打摩押人，使他們躺臥在地上，用繩來量，量二繩的殺了，量一繩的活着。摩押人就臣服大衛，向他進貢。利合的兒子瑣巴王哈大底謝往幼發拉底河去，要奪回他的國權，大衛就攻打他，俘擄了他的騎兵一千七百人，步兵二萬人。大衛把所有戰馬的蹄筋砍斷，只留下一百輛戰車。大馬士革的亞蘭人來幫助瑣巴王哈大底謝，大衛殺了亞蘭人二萬二千。於是大衛在大馬士革的亞蘭設立軍營，亞蘭人就臣服大衛，向他進貢。大衛無論往哪裏去，耶和華都使他得勝。大衛奪了哈大底謝臣僕擁有的金盾牌，帶到耶路撒冷。大衛王又從哈大底謝的比他和比羅他二城奪取了許多的銅。哈馬王陀以聽見大衛擊敗哈大底謝的全軍，就派他兒子約蘭到大衛王那裏，向他請安，為他祝福，因他與哈大底謝爭戰，並且擊敗了他；原來哈大底謝與陀以常常爭戰。約蘭手裏帶了金銀銅的器皿來。大衛王把這些器皿分別為聖，連同他制伏各國所分別為聖的金銀，獻給耶和華，就是從亞蘭、摩押、亞捫人、非利士人、亞瑪力人，以及從利合的兒子瑣巴王哈大底謝所掠之物。大衛得了名聲。當他回來的時候，在鹽谷擊殺了一萬八千以東人。大衛在以東設立軍營；他在全以東設立軍營，以東人就都臣服他。大衛無論往哪裏去，耶和華都使他得勝。

掃羅說：「你們要對大衛這樣說：『王不要甚麼聘禮，只要一百非利士人的包皮，好在王的仇敵身上報仇。』」掃羅的意圖是要大衛落在非利士人的手中。

掃羅無論差遣大衛往何處去，他都做事精明。掃羅立他作軍隊的指揮官，眾百姓和掃羅的臣僕都看為美。大衛打死了那非利士人，同眾人回來的時候，婦女們從以色列各城裏出來，歡歡喜喜，打鼓奏樂，唱歌跳舞，迎接掃羅王。眾婦女歡樂唱和，說：「掃羅殺死千千，大衛殺死萬萬。」

那人說：「你賜給我、與我一起的女人，是她把那樹上所出的給我，我就吃了。」耶和華神對女人說：「你怎麼會做這種事呢？」女人說：「那蛇引誘我，我就吃了。」

你們心裏若懷着惡毒的嫉妒和自私，就不可自誇，不可說謊話抵擋真理。這樣的智慧不是從上頭下來的，而是屬地上的，屬情慾的，屬鬼魔的。在何處有嫉妒、自私，在何處就有動亂和各樣的壞事。

他拚了命殺那非利士人，並且耶和華為全以色列大施拯救。那時你看見，也很歡喜，現在為何要犯罪，流無辜人的血，無緣無故殺大衛呢？」

我對他們說：『凡有金環的可以摘下來』，他們就給了我。我把金環扔在火中，這牛犢就出來了。」

這樣，大衛用機弦和石子勝了那非利士人，擊中了他，把他殺死；大衛手中沒有刀。

大衛來到巴力‧毗拉心，在那裏擊敗了非利士人。他說：「耶和華在我面前沖破敵人，如水沖破一樣。」因此他稱那地方為巴力‧毗拉心。
