他在他的族弟兄和撒瑪利亞的軍兵面前說：『嘿！這些衰弱憔悴的猶大人要作甚麼？他們要奮不顧身麼？要宰獻祭牲動工麼？要在一天之內就作完麼？他們要從塵土廢堆中拿火燒過的石頭把它重新建造起來麼？』亞捫人多比雅在參巴拉旁邊，他也說：『哼！這些人所修造的、就是一隻狐狸上去，也會把這些石牆跐個破口的！』我們的上帝啊，求你垂聽我們怎樣地被藐視；求你使他們的毁謗回到他們自己的頭上，使他們在被擄之地作為被掠之物。不要遮掩他們的罪孽，不要將他們的罪從你面前塗抹掉；因為他們在修造的人面前惹你發怒。

如今你可以和我的主上亞述王交換打賭的當頭：我給你二千匹馬，看你那一方面能派出足夠的人來騎牠不。若不然，你怎能使我主上最小的臣僕之中之一個軍長轉臉而逃呢？你竟倚靠埃及要得戰車和駿馬呀！

便哈達又差遣人來見亞哈說：『撒瑪利亞的塵土若夠跟從我的人每人捧一捧的，願神明這樣懲罰我，並且加倍地懲罰。』

因為他說：『我所作的是靠我手的能力、和我的智慧；因為我很聰明；我挪移了別族之民的地界，搶掠了他們的準備庫，我像勇士使他們的居民低落。我的手抓到了別族之民的資財，好像人抓到鳥窩；我取得了全地，好像人拾取了被遺棄的雀蛋一樣；卻沒有動一動翅膀的，或是開一開口啁啾一聲的。』

那非利士人直望着；他見了大衛，就藐視他，因為他年輕，臉色赤紅，容貌美麗。

那非利士人對大衛說：『你到我這裏來吧，我就將你的肉給空中的飛鳥和田野的走獸。』
