This happened because they had not obeyed the Lord their God, but had violated his covenant— all that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded. They neither listened to the commands nor carried them out.

These things happened because the Israelites hadn’t obeyed the Lord their God. They had broken the covenant he had made with them. They had refused to do everything Moses, the servant of the Lord, had commanded. They hadn’t paid any attention to those commands. They hadn’t obeyed them.

其時我必怒而棄之、掩面不顧之、使被吞食、多遭禍患災難、斯時也、彼必曰、我遭此禍災、豈非因我天主不在我中之故乎、

此因以色列人獲罪於主其天主、天主昔導之出伊及、脫於伊及王法老之手、彼反敬畏他神、昔主於以色列人前、逐異族之民、以色列人乃從其習俗、亦從以色列王擅設之陋規、以色列人私行非法、背逆主其天主、自戍樓以及鞏固之城、各處建築邱壇、在各高岡上、各茂樹下、立柱像與亞舍拉、亞舍拉或作木偶在諸邱壇上焚香、效主在其前所逐異族之民、行諸惡事、干犯主怒、主曾禁之曰、勿拜偶像、而彼反拜之、主藉諸先知與諸先見、警戒以色列人及猶大人曰、當棄惡行、守我誡命法度、循我所命爾列祖、又藉我僕眾先知授爾之律法、斯民不聽、強項不馴、不信主其天主、與其列祖無異、違棄主之律例、及主與其列祖所立之約、並主警戒之言、從虛無之神、行虛妄之事、主命之勿效四周異邦人所為、彼反從之、棄主其天主之一切誡命、鎔鑄二犢、立亞舍拉、亞舍拉或作木偶崇拜天之萬象、奉事巴力、焚獻子女、原文作使其子女過於火用邪術、信卜筮、專行惡於主前、干犯其怒、主甚怒以色列人、逐於其前、所留者惟猶大一支派而已、猶大人亦不守主其天主之誡命、從以色列人擅設之陋規、於是主棄以色列全族、降以災禍、付於敵手而被擄、終逐之離於其前、以色列人自大衛家奪國、立尼八子耶羅波安為王、耶羅波安誘以色列人違背主、陷於大罪、以色列人從耶羅波安所為、不離其諸罪、以致主逐以色列人離於其前、循主籍其僕眾先知所言、於是以色列人被擄、離故土而至亞述、迄於今日、○

蓋時已至、天主之家先受鞫、若我儕先受鞫、則不信天主福音者、其終當何如、

愚人妄行作孽、便受苦楚、

主於爾前滅列邦之民、爾曹亦必如是見滅、因不聽從主爾天主之言故也、

如爾及爾子孫背逆我、不守我所賜爾之誡命律例、往而奉事崇拜他神、

以烈火烈火原文作火焰施刑、而報不識天主不服我耶穌基督福音者、

惟我僕摩西不然、彼乃盡忠於我全家、

於是主之僕摩西卒於彼、即在摩押地、如主所言、

乃彼不順、叛逆主、背棄主之律法、殺勸其歸主之眾先知、行大褻瀆之事、故主付之於敵手、加之以困苦、急難之時、彼呼籲主、主自天俯聽、大發矜憐、屢賜以救者、拯之脫於敵手、

不欲順從、不追念主為其所行之奇事、強項背逆、自立一長、欲返為奴之地、惟主為天主赦宥、仁慈、矜憐、容忍、大施恩惠、仍不棄之、

背叛之以色列、因行淫為我所逐、予以離書、其妹悖逆之猶大仍不畏懼、亦復行淫、我悉鑒察、

摩西為僕、在天主全家盡忠、為預證將來必傳之道、基督為子、治理其家、我儕若持守毅然之心、與可誇之望、鞏固至終、則皆為其家、

惟命之以此、曰、爾其聽我言、我必為爾之天主、爾將為我之民、遵行我所命爾之道、必可蒙福、

亦為蹶人之石、礙人之磐、彼不信道者因之蹶焉、彼等亦為此預定也、

彼與列邦人皆必問曰、主何為如此待此地、其怒若是之烈何故、人必對曰、緣斯民列祖之主天主、昔導之出伊及、與之立約而民背之、往奉事叩拜異邦之神、即素所不識之神、主未嘗命彼奉事者、故主震怒斯地、以此書所載之諸禍禍或作詛降之、大震其怒、氣忿甚烈、以斯民由其地拔除、投棄於異邦、有如今日之事、

如不遵主爾天主之誡命、離我今日所諭爾之道、從異邦之神、爾所未識者、則必受禍、

夫主之僕不可爭競、必以慈愛待眾、善於施教、亦當忍耐、

如爾願聽而順從、可食地之美產、
