The king of Assyria complied by attacking Damascus and capturing it. He deported its inhabitants to Kir and put Rezin to death.

主如是云、大瑪色人犯罪、至三至四、更以鐵器擊基列人、故我降罰以報之、必不挽回、必不挽回或作必不回志下同必使火焚哈薛家、燬便哈達宮殿、折大瑪色之關、殲亞文平原之居民、絕伯伊甸之執政者、執政者原文作執圭者下同使亞蘭人被擄至吉珥、此乃主所言、

故主使利汛之敵、亦至而攻之、更激其仇敵、執兵刃以來戰、

亞哈斯雖以主殿王宮大夫家之物、賄亞述王、彼仍不助之、

蓋此子尚未明棄惡擇善之先、爾所懼之二王、其國必荒蕪、

故主其天主付之於亞蘭王手、亞蘭人擊之、擄民甚眾、攜至大瑪色、亦付於以色列王手、以色列王大戮其民、
