Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected[ us], and we gave[ them] reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?For they verily for a few days chastened[ us] after their own pleasure; but he for[ our] profit, that[ we] might be partakers of his holiness.Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

O LORD, thou hast deceived me, and I was deceived: thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed: I am in derision daily, every one mocketh me.For since I spake, I cried out, I cried violence and spoil; because the word of the LORD was made a reproach unto me, and a derision, daily.Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But[ his word] was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not[ stay].

For if I make you sorry, who is he then that maketh me glad, but the same which is made sorry by me?And I wrote this same unto you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is[ the joy] of you all.For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you.But if any have caused grief, he hath not grieved me, but in part: that I may not overcharge you all.Sufficient to such a man[ is] this punishment, which[ was inflicted] of many.So that contrariwise ye[ ought] rather to forgive[ him], and comfort[ him], lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow.Wherefore I beseech you that ye would confirm[ your] love toward him.For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things.To whom ye forgive any thing, I[ forgive] also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave[ it], for your sakes[ forgave I it] in the person of Christ;Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.

He saith unto him the third time, Simon,[ son] of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Lord, wherefore hast thou[ so] evil entreated this people? why[ is] it[ that] thou hast sent me?For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath done evil to this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all.

But though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies.

For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea,[ what] clearing of yourselves, yea,[ what] indignation, yea,[ what] fear, yea,[ what] vehement desire, yea,[ what] zeal, yea,[ what] revenge! In all[ things] ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.
