撒母耳對他們說：「如果你們全心歸向耶和華，就要除掉你們那些外族的神明，包括亞斯她錄神像，一心歸向耶和華，單單事奉祂，祂必從非利士人手中救你們。」於是，他們除掉了巴力和亞斯她錄神像，單單事奉耶和華。

亞伯拉罕在別示巴栽了一棵紅柳，又在那裡呼求耶和華——永恆上帝的名。

於是，從但到別示巴以及基列的全體以色列人萬眾一心，來到米斯巴，聚集在耶和華面前。

現在我決心要與以色列的上帝耶和華立約，好使祂的烈怒轉離我們。我的孩子們啊，不要懈怠！因為耶和華揀選你們站在祂面前事奉祂，向祂燒香。」

約書亞對他們說：「如果你們人口眾多，認為以法蓮山區窄小，你們可以到比利洗人和利乏音人居住的地方開闢林區。」

他將以先知以利亞的心志和能力作主的先鋒，使父親的心轉向兒女，使叛逆的人回轉、順從義人的智慧，為主預備合用的子民。」

他必使父親的心轉向兒女，兒女的心轉向父親，免得我來用咒詛毀滅這地方。」

那時候，以色列沒有王。有一個利未人住在以法蓮山區的偏遠地帶，他娶了猶大伯利恆的一個女子為妾。
