For the appeal we make does not spring from error or impure motives, nor are we trying to trick you.

The appeal we make is based on truth. It comes from a pure heart. We are not trying to trick you.

So you can see we were not preaching with any deceit or impure motives or trickery.

Instead, we have renounced secret and shameful things, not acting deceitfully or distorting the word of God, but commending ourselves before God to everyone’s conscience by an open display of the truth.

For we do not market the word of God for profit like so many. On the contrary, we speak with sincerity in Christ, as from God and before God.

For God has not called us to impurity but to live in holiness.

For we never used flattering speech, as you know, or had greedy motives— God is our witness—and we didn’t seek glory from people, either from you or from others.

I have not coveted anyone’s silver or gold or clothing.You yourselves know that I worked with my own hands to support myself and those who are with me.

Now granted, I did not burden you; yet sly as I am, I took you in by deceit!Did I take advantage of you by any of those I sent you?I urged Titus to go, and I sent the brother with him. Titus didn’t take advantage of you, did he? Didn’t we walk in the same spirit and in the same footsteps?

Make room for us in your hearts. We have wronged no one, corrupted no one, taken advantage of no one.

Then Moses became angry and said to the LORD,“ Don’t respect their offering. I have not taken one donkey from them or mistreated a single one of them.”

Here I am. Bring charges against me before the LORD and his anointed: Whose ox or donkey have I taken? Who have I wronged or mistreated? Who gave me a bribe to overlook something? I will return it to you.”
