When they had assembled at Mizpah, they drew water and poured it out before the Lord. On that day they fasted and there they confessed,“ We have sinned against the Lord.” Now Samuel was serving as leader of Israel at Mizpah.

When the people had come together at Mizpah, they went to the well and got water. They poured it out in front of the Lord. On that day they didn’t eat any food. They admitted they had sinned. They said,“ We’ve sinned against the Lord.” Samuel was serving as the leader of Israel at Mizpah.

So they gathered at Mizpah and drew water and poured it out before the Lord and fasted on that day and said there,“ We have sinned against the Lord.” And Samuel judged the people of Israel at Mizpah.

So they gathered at Mizpah and, in a great ceremony, drew water from a well and poured it out before the Lord. They also went without food all day and confessed that they had sinned against the Lord.( It was at Mizpah that Samuel became Israel’s judge.)

籲耶和華曰、舍我上帝、服事巴力、我實有罪。

我眾終必有死、如水傾地、不能復聚、故上帝不使償命、別設一法、俾亡者得免驅逐。

願我首為淵、我目為泉、淚出不止、斯民被戮、我為哭泣、無間晝夜。

哈拿曰、我主與、我之為婦、焦勞思慮、清酒醇醪不飲、惟於耶和華前吐露衷懷、

列祖犯罪、我儕濟其惡、愆尤叢集、

如在被虜之地、翻然易念、悔改前非、祈求於爾、自陳其過、以負咎戾、

郇邑之民、當籲於主、痛哭流涕、無間晝夜、潸然不已兮。夜未央兮、當起號呼、更初屆兮、當於主前、吐其衷曲、爾之赤子、已為餓殍、仆於逵衢、爾當舉手於上、求其矜恤兮。

耶和華曰、爾當一心歸誠乎我、禁食、號哭、悲哀、

人不守爾律例、我澘然下淚、若溪水之流兮。○

我將反就父曰、我獲罪於天、及於父前、

上帝誠可恃兮、爾曹民人、當恆賴之、爾在其前、吐露衷懷兮。

我耶和華爾之上帝、爾違逆予、不遵我命、入諸茂林、崇事他上帝、今當任過。耶和華又曰、爾曹違逆之流、為我所棄、今當歸誠、我必納爾、於城邑中則簡一人、於支派中則簡二人、導至郇山。

人恆詰我、上帝何在、予也忘食、盡日飲涕兮、

約沙法甚恐、禱耶和華、使猶大舉國禁食。

我困憊兮欷歔、終夜兮流涕、幃榻兮沾濡、

我在亞哈瓦河濱、俾眾禁食、在我上帝前、痛自怨艾、望我儕及子女、與凡所有、俱得坦途。昔我告王曰、凡宗事我上帝者、必蒙其祐、棄之者必干其怒、今若求王、以騎兵步卒賜我禦敵、則我必深以為恥。故我禁食、求我上帝、蒙其應許。

故我自憾、坐於塗炭、旋有悔心。○

渺我微軀、弗能應對、無以措辭、

人子、爾當責之、使知自昔以來、彼祖所作、我已痛疾。

耶和華之神感之、為以色列族士師、導之以戰、耶和華以古山哩薩田付於其手、使之獲勝。

言於眾前曰、我昔犯罪、蹈於非義、所為無益、

澘然出涕、晝夜不息兮。

故爾使之困於敵國、遭難之時、彼呼籲爾、爾自天俯聽、矜憫靡涯、累賜扶危之士、不為敵所害。

我民流亡、孩提之子、哺乳之兒、喪於逵衢兮、我目流涕、中心惻怛、不啻肝腦之塗地兮。

如其能任己愆、及前人之罪、自知差失、所行逆我、

我既悛改、悔於厥衷、我既受教、擊髀浩嘆、幼時已干罪戾、既長更負愆尤、含羞抱愧、無地可容。

爰爾震怒、我體不痊、因予罪戾、我躬弗安、我罪孔多、如水滅頂、任重難負兮、予因妄為而遇重傷、肉臭膿流兮、我躬拳曲、終日殷憂兮、腰骨如炙、百體不痊兮、力衰而糜爛、心憂而欷歔兮、

我禁食衣麻蒙灰、仰首禱告我主上帝、自陳罪戾、求我之上帝耶和華曰、至大之主上帝、深可畏懼、凡敬愛乎主、恪守律法、則爾矜憫之、必踐所言、我儕犯罪作惡、違爾律例、棄爾禮儀、

七月二十四日、以色列族咸集、禁食、衣麻、蒙塵、與異邦人絕交、卓然自立、自任己過、及列祖愆尤。是日一時四刻、立於其次、誦上帝耶和華律例之書、又一時四刻、任罪崇拜上帝。

耶和華復命約拿曰、往尼尼微大邑、以我所言告眾。約拿遵耶和華命、往尼尼微、夫尼尼微邑甚廣、城之四周、三日始徧、約拿入城、歷一日之程、呼曰、尼尼微邑、不過四十日、必傾圮矣。尼尼微人信上帝、使眾自尊逮卑、禁食衣麻、尼尼微王聞言下位、解衣衣麻、坐於塗炭。王與諸侯出諭、遍尼尼微邑曰、人與六畜牛羊、俱勿食糧、飲水、俱必衣麻、懇籲上帝、眾當去惡、勿虐人民、庶幾上帝或回厥志、而息其怒、使我不亡。於是眾民、咸去舊惡、上帝鑒察之、乃回厥志、災不果降。

而友朋嘲笑、不禁潸然出涕、求於上帝。
