亞哈聽了以利亞的話，就撕裂衣服，披麻禁食，睡覺也不脫下麻衣，垂頭喪氣地走來走去。

摩西和亞倫俯伏在以色列全體會眾面前。

摩西和亞倫就伏在地上說：「上帝啊，賜人生命的上帝啊！一人犯罪，你就要向全體會眾發怒嗎？」

這時，在以色列人前面領路的上帝的天使，轉到百姓後面，雲柱也隨著移到後面立住。雲柱停在埃及軍隊和以色列人的中間，埃及軍隊這邊一片黑暗，以色列人那邊卻有光，雙方整夜都無法接近對方。

希西迦王聽了就撕裂衣服，披上麻衣，進入耶和華的殿。

他隨後禱告：「耶和華啊，求你開他的眼睛，讓他看見。」於是，耶和華開那個僕人的眼睛，他就看見山上到處都是火車火馬圍繞著以利沙。

他們生病時，我披上麻衣，謙卑地為他們禁食禱告，但上帝沒有垂聽。我為他們哀傷，視他們為朋友、弟兄；我低頭為他們哭泣，如同哀悼自己的母親。

約書亞走近耶利哥，舉目看見一個人手裡拿著拔出來的劍站在他面前。約書亞上前去問道：「你是來幫助我們的，還是來幫助我們敵人的？」那人答道：「都不是，我來是做耶和華軍隊的統帥。」約書亞就俯伏下拜說：「我主，有什麼話要吩咐僕人？」

尼尼微王聽到這消息後，便走下寶座，脫下王袍，披上麻衣，坐在爐灰中。王又向全城頒佈命令，說：「王和大臣有令，所有的人都必須禁食，牛羊牲畜都不許吃草也不許喝水。人和牲畜都必須披上麻衣，眾人要向上帝懇切呼求，改邪歸正，停止作惡。

上帝趕走了亞當以後，就派遣基路伯天使駐守在伊甸園東邊，又用一把旋轉的火劍守護在通往生命樹的路上。

那時，耶和華開了巴蘭的眼，他才看見耶和華的天使持刀攔在路上，便俯伏在地。
