現在你要對我僕人大衛這樣說：「萬軍之永恆主這麼說：我將你從羊圈中、從趕羊羣的事上選取了來，讓你做人君來管理我人民以色列。

故當謂我僕大衛曰、萬軍之耶和華云、我自羊牢中、羊羣後、取爾為我民以色列之君、

今當告我僕大闢、萬有之主耶和華云、昔爾在羊牢為牧、我特遴選爾、使為我民、以色列族長、

今爾告我僕大衛曰、萬有之主如是云、昔我自羊牢中、自羊群後、召爾立為我民以色列之君、

“ Now then, tell my servant David,‘ This is what the Lord Almighty says: I took you from the pasture, from tending the flock, and appointed you ruler over my people Israel.

“ So tell my servant David,‘ The Lord who rules over all says,“ I took you away from the grasslands. That is where you were taking care of your father’s sheep and goats. I appointed you ruler over my people Israel.

Now, therefore, thus shall you say to my servant David,‘ Thus says the Lord of hosts, I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, to be prince over my people Israel,

“ Now go and say to my servant David,‘ This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies has declared: I took you from tending sheep in the pasture and selected you to be the leader of my people Israel.

“ So now this is what you are to say to my servant David:‘ This is what the LORD of Armies says: I took you from the pasture, from tending the flock, to be ruler over my people Israel.

Now, therefore, this is what you shall say to My servant David:‘ This is what the Lord of armies says:“ I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, to be leader over My people Israel.

Now therefore, thus shall you say to My servant David,‘ Thus says the Lord of hosts:“ I took you from the sheepfold, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people Israel.

Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be prince over my people Israel:

“ Now this is what you will say to My servant David:‘ This is what the Lord of Hosts says: I took you from the pasture and from following the sheep to be ruler over My people Israel.

Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote,[ even] from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be ruler over my people Israel:

“ So now, say this to my servant David:‘ This is what the LORD who commands armies says:“ I took you from the pasture and from your work as a shepherd to make you a leader of my people Israel.

“ Now therefore, you shall tell my servant David,‘ Yahweh of Armies says,“ I took you from the sheep pen, from following the sheep, to be prince over my people Israel.

大衛對她說：「我是在耶和華面前跳舞。祂不用你父親和你父親家裡的人，而是選立我來治理祂的以色列子民，所以我要在祂面前歡慶。

『猶大地區的伯利恆啊！你在猶大各城中並不是最小的，因為有一位君王要從你那裡出來，牧養我的以色列子民。』」

他有時去掃羅的軍營，有時回伯利恆為他父親放羊。

祂揀選了祂的僕人大衛，把他從羊圈中召來，讓他離開牧羊的生活，去牧養祂的子民雅各的後裔，牧養祂的產業以色列。

包括西庇太的兩個兒子雅各和約翰。耶穌對西門說：「不要怕，從今以後，你將成為得人的漁夫。」

耶穌沿著加利利湖邊行走的時候，看見被稱為彼得的西門和安得烈兩兄弟正在撒網打魚，他們是漁夫。耶穌對他們說：「來跟從我！我要使你們成為得人的漁夫。」他們立刻撇下漁網，跟從了耶穌。耶穌再往前走，又看見雅各和約翰兩兄弟正和父親西庇太一起在船上補漁網。耶穌呼召他們，他們馬上離開漁船，辭別父親，跟從了耶穌。

耶西答道：「還有一個最小的，他正在田間放羊。」撒母耳對耶西說：「派人叫他回來，他不來，我們就不入座。」耶西就派人去叫他回來。他面色紅潤，眉清目秀，相貌英俊。耶和華說：「就是他，起來膏立他吧。」

「現在你要告訴我的僕人大衛，萬軍之耶和華說，『你原本在草場牧羊，我召你來做我以色列子民的首領。

我答道：「我本不是先知，也不是先知的門徒。我只是一個牧人，也替人看護桑樹。但耶和華不再讓我看守羊群，祂對我說，『去！向我的以色列子民說預言。』

摩西為岳父米甸祭司葉忒羅放羊。一天他領著羊群穿越曠野，來到上帝的山——何烈山。忽然有耶和華的天使在荊棘裡的火焰中向他顯現。摩西看見荊棘雖然在燃燒，卻沒有被燒毀。摩西想：「我要過去看這個奇異的景象，荊棘為什麼沒有被燒掉呢？」耶和華上帝見他要上前觀看，就從荊棘叢中呼喚他說：「摩西！摩西！」摩西說：「我在這裡。」上帝說：「別再靠近，脫下你腳上的鞋子，因為你所站的地方是聖地。」又說：「我是你祖先的上帝，是亞伯拉罕的上帝，以撒的上帝，雅各的上帝。」摩西害怕看上帝，就把臉蒙起來。耶和華說：「我已經看見我子民在埃及所受的苦難，聽見了他們因監工的壓迫而發出的呼求。我知道他們的痛苦。我下來是要從埃及人手中救他們，帶他們離開那裡，到一個遼闊肥沃的奶蜜之鄉，就是現在迦南人、赫人、亞摩利人、比利洗人、希未人和耶布斯人居住的地方。現在，以色列人的呼求傳到我耳中，我也看到了埃及人怎樣壓迫他們。現在去吧，我要派你到法老那裡，帶領我的以色列子民離開埃及。」
