  • Joshua 16:1 - Then the lot for the sons of Joseph went from the Jordan at Jericho to the waters of Jericho on the east into the wilderness, going up from Jericho through the hill country to Bethel.
  • Joshua 16:2 - It went from Bethel to Luz, and continued to the border of the Archites at Ataroth.
  • Joshua 16:3 - Then it went down westward to the territory of the Japhletites, as far as the territory of lower Beth-horon even to Gezer, and it ended at the sea.
  • Joshua 16:4 - The sons of Joseph, Manasseh and Ephraim, received their inheritance.
  • Joshua 16:5 - Now this was the territory of the sons of Ephraim according to their families: the border of their inheritance eastward was Ataroth-addar, as far as upper Beth-horon.
  • Joshua 16:6 - Then the border went westward at Michmethath on the north, and the border turned eastward to Taanath-shiloh and continued beyond it to the east of Janoah.
  • Joshua 16:7 - Then it went down from Janoah to Ataroth and to Naarah, then reached Jericho and came out at the Jordan.
  • Joshua 16:8 - From Tappuah the border continued westward to the brook of Kanah, and it ended at the sea. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the sons of Ephraim according to their families,
  • Joshua 16:9 - together with the cities which were set apart for the sons of Ephraim in the midst of the inheritance of the sons of Manasseh, all the cities with their villages.
  • Joshua 16:10 - But they did not drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer, so the Canaanites live in the midst of Ephraim to this day, and they became forced laborers.
  • Psalms 128:1 - Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, Who walks in His ways.
  • Psalms 1:1 - Blessed is the person who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
  • Psalms 1:2 - But his delight is in the Law of the Lord, And on His Law he meditates day and night.
  • Psalms 1:3 - He will be like a tree planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season, And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers.
  • Numbers 32:1 - Now the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad had a very large number of livestock. So when they saw the land of Jazer and the land of Gilead, that it was indeed a place suitable for livestock,
  • Numbers 32:2 - the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben came and spoke to Moses, Eleazar the priest, and to the leaders of the congregation, saying,
  • Numbers 32:3 - “Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo, and Beon,
  • Numbers 32:4 - the land which the Lord conquered before the congregation of Israel, is a land for livestock, and your servants have livestock.”
  • Numbers 32:5 - And they said, “If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants as our property; do not take us across the Jordan.”
  • Numbers 32:6 - But Moses said to the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben, “Should your brothers go to war while you remain here?
  • Numbers 32:7 - And why are you discouraging the sons of Israel from crossing over into the land which the Lord has given them?
  • Numbers 32:8 - This is what your fathers did when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea to see the land.
  • Numbers 32:9 - For when they went up to the Valley of Eshcol and saw the land, they discouraged the sons of Israel so that they did not go into the land which the Lord had given them.
  • Numbers 32:10 - So the Lord’s anger burned on that day, and He swore, saying,
  • Numbers 32:11 - ‘None of the men who came up from Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; for they did not follow Me fully,
  • Numbers 32:12 - except Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua the son of Nun; for they have followed the Lord fully.’
  • Numbers 32:13 - So the Lord’s anger burned against Israel, and He made them wander in the wilderness for forty years, until the entire generation of those who had done evil in the sight of the Lord came to an end.
  • Numbers 32:14 - Now behold, you have risen up in your fathers’ place, born of sinful men, to add still more to the burning anger of the Lord against Israel.
  • Numbers 32:15 - For if you turn away from following Him, He will once more leave them in the wilderness, and you will destroy all these people.”
  • Numbers 32:16 - Then they approached him and said, “We will build sheepfolds for our livestock here and cities for our little ones;
  • Numbers 32:17 - but we ourselves will be armed, hurrying ahead of the sons of Israel, until we have brought them to their place, while our little ones live in the fortified cities because of the inhabitants of the land.
  • Numbers 32:18 - We will not return to our homes until every one of the sons of Israel has gained possession of his inheritance.
  • Numbers 32:19 - But we will not have an inheritance with them on the other side of the Jordan and beyond, because our inheritance has come to us on this side of the Jordan toward the east.”
  • Numbers 32:20 - So Moses said to them, “If you will do this, if you will arm yourselves before the Lord for the war,
  • Numbers 32:21 - and all of you armed men cross over the Jordan before the Lord until He has driven His enemies out from Him,
  • Numbers 32:22 - and the land is subdued before the Lord, then afterward you may return and be free of obligation toward the Lord and toward Israel, and this land shall be yours as property before the Lord.
  • Numbers 32:23 - But if you do not do so, behold, you have sinned against the Lord, and be sure that your sin will find you out.
  • Numbers 32:24 - Build yourselves cities for your little ones, and sheepfolds for your sheep, and do what you have promised.”
  • Numbers 32:25 - Then the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben spoke to Moses, saying, “Your servants will do just as my lord commands.
  • Numbers 32:26 - Our little ones, our wives, our livestock, and all our cattle shall remain there in the cities of Gilead,
  • Numbers 32:27 - while your servants, that is, everyone who is armed for war, cross over in the presence of the Lord to battle, just as my lord says.”
  • Numbers 32:28 - So Moses gave the command regarding them to Eleazar the priest, to Joshua the son of Nun, and to the heads of the fathers’ households of the tribes of the sons of Israel.
  • Numbers 32:29 - And Moses said to them, “If the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben, everyone who is armed for battle, cross with you over the Jordan in the presence of the Lord, and the land is subdued before you, then you shall give them the land of Gilead as their property;
  • Numbers 32:30 - but if they do not cross over with you armed, they shall instead be settled among you in the land of Canaan.”
  • Numbers 32:31 - And the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben answered, saying, “As the Lord has said to your servants, so we will do.
  • Numbers 32:32 - We ourselves will cross over armed in the presence of the Lord into the land of Canaan, and the property of our inheritance shall remain with us across the Jordan.”
  • Numbers 32:33 - So Moses gave to them, to the sons of Gad, the sons of Reuben, and to the half-tribe of Joseph’s son Manasseh, the kingdom of Sihon, king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og, the king of Bashan, the land with its cities with their territories, the cities of the surrounding land.
  • Numbers 32:34 - And the sons of Gad built Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer,
  • Numbers 32:35 - Atroth-shophan, Jazer, Jogbehah,
  • Numbers 32:36 - Beth-nimrah, and Beth-haran as fortified cities, and sheepfolds for sheep.
  • Numbers 32:37 - The sons of Reuben built Heshbon, Elealeh, Kiriathaim,
  • Numbers 32:38 - Nebo, and Baal-meon—their names being changed—and Sibmah, and they gave other names to the cities which they built.
  • Numbers 32:39 - The sons of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead and took it, and dispossessed the Amorites who were in it.
  • Numbers 32:40 - So Moses gave Gilead to Machir the son of Manasseh, and he lived in it.
  • Numbers 32:41 - Jair the son of Manasseh went and took its towns, and called them Havvoth-jair.
  • Numbers 32:42 - Nobah went and took Kenath and its villages, and named it Nobah, after his own name.
  • Genesis 48:1 - Now it came about after these things that Joseph was told, “Behold, your father is sick.” So he took his two sons Manasseh and Ephraim with him.
  • Ezekiel 19:11 - And it had strong stems fit for scepters of rulers, And its height was raised above the clouds So that it was seen in its height with the mass of its branches.
  • Joshua 17:14 - Then the sons of Joseph spoke to Joshua, saying, “Why have you given me only one lot and one portion as an inheritance, though I am a numerous people whom the Lord has blessed up to this point?”
  • Joshua 17:15 - And Joshua said to them, “If you are a numerous people, go up to the forest and clear a place for yourself there in the land of the Perizzites and of the Rephaim, since the hill country of Ephraim is too narrow for you.”
  • Joshua 17:16 - The sons of Joseph then said, “The hill country is not enough for us, but all the Canaanites who live in the valley land have iron chariots, both those who are in Beth-shean and its towns and those who are in the Valley of Jezreel.”
  • Joshua 17:17 - But Joshua spoke to the house of Joseph, to Ephraim and Manasseh, saying, “You are a numerous people and have great power; you shall not have one lot only,
  • Genesis 30:22 - Then God remembered Rachel, and God listened to her and opened her womb.
  • Genesis 30:23 - So she conceived and gave birth to a son, and said, “God has taken away my disgrace.”
  • Genesis 30:24 - And she named him Joseph, saying, “May the Lord give me another son.”

  • Deuteronomy 33:13 - Of Joseph he said, “Blessed of the Lord be his land, With the choice things of heaven, with the dew, And from the deep waters lying beneath,
  • Deuteronomy 33:14 - And with the choice yield of the sun, And the choice produce of the months;
  • Deuteronomy 33:15 - And with the best things of the ancient mountains, With the choice things of the everlasting hills,
  • Deuteronomy 33:16 - And with the choice things of the earth and its fullness, And the favor of Him who dwelt in the bush. Let it come to the head of Joseph, And to the top of the head of the one who was prince among his brothers.
  • Deuteronomy 33:17 - As the firstborn of his ox, majesty is his, And his horns are the horns of the wild ox; With them he will gore the peoples All at once, to the ends of the earth. And those are the ten thousands of Ephraim, And those are the thousands of Manasseh.”
  • Genesis 46:27 - and the sons of Joseph, who were born to him in Egypt, were two; all the people of the house of Jacob, who came to Egypt, were seventy.
  • Genesis 41:52 - And he named the second Ephraim; “For,” he said, “God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction.”
