  • Luke 23:19 - (He had been thrown into prison for a rebellion that had taken place in the city, and for murder.)

  • Luke 23:21 - but they kept shouting, “Crucify! Crucify him!”
  • Luke 23:22 - A third time he said to them, “Why? What has this man done wrong? I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty. Therefore, I will have him whipped and then release him.”
  • Luke 23:23 - But they kept up the pressure, demanding with loud voices that he be crucified, and their voices won out.

  • Luke 23:25 - and released the one they were asking for, who had been thrown into prison for rebellion and murder. But he handed Jesus over to their will.

  • Mark 15:18 - And they began to salute him, “Hail, king of the Jews!”
  • Mark 15:19 - They were hitting him on the head with a stick and spitting on him. Getting down on their knees, they were paying him homage.
  • Mark 15:20 - After they had mocked him, they stripped him of the purple robe and put his clothes on him. They led him out to crucify him.
  • Mark 15:21 - They forced a man coming in from the country, who was passing by, to carry Jesus’s cross. He was Simon of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus.
  • Mark 15:22 - They brought Jesus to the place called Golgotha (which means Place of the Skull ).
  • Mark 15:23 - They tried to give him wine mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it.
  • Mark 15:24 - Then they crucified him and divided his clothes, casting lots for them to decide what each would get.
  • Mark 15:25 - Now it was nine in the morning when they crucified him.
  • Mark 15:26 - The inscription of the charge written against him was: The King of the Jews.
  • Mark 15:27 - They crucified two criminals with him, one on his right and one on his left.
  • Job 15:14 - What is a mere human, that he should be pure, or one born of a woman, that he should be righteous?
  • John 10:36 - do you say, ‘You are blaspheming’ to the one the Father set apart and sent into the world, because I said: I am the Son of God?
  • Job 25:4 - How can a human be justified before God? How can one born of woman be pure?

  • Matthew 2:15 - He stayed there until Herod’s death, so that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet might be fulfilled: Out of Egypt I called my Son.
  • Matthew 2:16 - Then Herod, when he realized that he had been outwitted by the wise men, flew into a rage. He gave orders to massacre all the boys in and around Bethlehem who were two years old and under, in keeping with the time he had learned from the wise men.
  • Luke 1:35 - The angel replied to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore, the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.
  • Psalms 2:2 - The kings of the earth take their stand, and the rulers conspire together against the Lord and his Anointed One:
  • Mark 14:43 - While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, suddenly arrived. With him was a mob, with swords and clubs, from the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders.
  • Mark 14:44 - His betrayer had given them a signal. “The one I kiss,” he said, “he’s the one; arrest him and take him away under guard.”
  • Mark 14:45 - So when he came, immediately he went up to Jesus and said, “Rabbi!” and kissed him.
  • Mark 14:46 - They took hold of him and arrested him.
  • Mark 14:47 - One of those who stood by drew his sword, struck the high priest’s servant, and cut off his ear.
  • Mark 14:48 - Jesus said to them, “Have you come out with swords and clubs, as if I were a criminal, to capture me?
  • Mark 14:49 - Every day I was among you, teaching in the temple, and you didn’t arrest me. But the Scriptures must be fulfilled.”
  • Mark 14:50 - Then they all deserted him and ran away.
  • Mark 14:51 - Now a certain young man, wearing nothing but a linen cloth, was following him. They caught hold of him,
  • Mark 14:52 - but he left the linen cloth behind and ran away naked.
  • Mark 14:53 - They led Jesus away to the high priest, and all the chief priests, the elders, and the scribes assembled.
  • Mark 14:54 - Peter followed him at a distance, right into the high priest’s courtyard. He was sitting with the servants, warming himself by the fire.
  • Mark 14:55 - The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for testimony against Jesus to put him to death, but they could not find any.
  • Mark 14:56 - For many were giving false testimony against him, and the testimonies did not agree.
  • Mark 14:57 - Some stood up and gave false testimony against him, stating,
  • Mark 14:58 - “We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this temple made with human hands, and in three days I will build another not made by hands.’”
  • Mark 14:59 - Yet their testimony did not agree even on this.
  • Mark 14:60 - Then the high priest stood up before them all and questioned Jesus, “Don’t you have an answer to what these men are testifying against you?”
  • Mark 14:61 - But he kept silent and did not answer. Again the high priest questioned him, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?”
  • Mark 14:62 - “I am,” said Jesus, “and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming with the clouds of heaven.”
  • Mark 14:63 - Then the high priest tore his robes and said, “Why do we still need witnesses?
  • Mark 14:64 - You have heard the blasphemy. What is your decision?” They all condemned him as deserving death.
  • Mark 14:65 - Then some began to spit on him, to blindfold him, and to beat him, saying, “Prophesy!” The temple servants also took him and slapped him.
  • Mark 10:33 - “See, we are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death. Then they will hand him over to the Gentiles,
  • Matthew 26:59 - The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false testimony against Jesus so that they could put him to death,
  • Matthew 26:60 - but they could not find any, even though many false witnesses came forward. Finally, two who came forward
  • Matthew 26:61 - stated, “This man said, ‘I can destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.’”
  • Matthew 26:62 - The high priest stood up and said to him, “Don’t you have an answer to what these men are testifying against you?”
  • Matthew 26:63 - But Jesus kept silent. The high priest said to him, “I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.”
  • Matthew 26:64 - “You have said it,” Jesus told him. “But I tell you, in the future you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
  • Matthew 26:65 - Then the high priest tore his robes and said, “He has blasphemed! Why do we still need witnesses? See, now you’ve heard the blasphemy.
  • Matthew 26:66 - What is your decision?” They answered, “He deserves death!”
  • Matthew 26:67 - Then they spat in his face and beat him; others slapped him
  • Matthew 26:68 - and said, “Prophesy to us, Messiah! Who was it that hit you?”
  • Mark 15:31 - In the same way, the chief priests with the scribes were mocking him among themselves and saying, “He saved others, but he cannot save himself!

  • Luke 23:7 - Finding that he was under Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem during those days.

  • Luke 23:12 - That very day Herod and Pilate became friends. Previously, they had been enemies.
  • Luke 23:13 - Pilate called together the chief priests, the leaders, and the people,
  • Luke 23:14 - and said to them, “You have brought me this man as one who misleads the people. But in fact, after examining him in your presence, I have found no grounds to charge this man with those things you accuse him of.
  • Luke 23:15 - Neither has Herod, because he sent him back to us. Clearly, he has done nothing to deserve death.
  • Luke 23:16 - Therefore, I will have him whipped and then release him.”
  • Luke 23:18 - Then they all cried out together, “Take this man away! Release Barabbas to us!”
  • Luke 23:19 - (He had been thrown into prison for a rebellion that had taken place in the city, and for murder.)
  • Luke 23:20 - Wanting to release Jesus, Pilate addressed them again,
  • Luke 23:21 - but they kept shouting, “Crucify! Crucify him!”
  • Luke 23:22 - A third time he said to them, “Why? What has this man done wrong? I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty. Therefore, I will have him whipped and then release him.”
  • Luke 23:23 - But they kept up the pressure, demanding with loud voices that he be crucified, and their voices won out.
  • Luke 23:24 - So Pilate decided to grant their demand
  • Luke 23:25 - and released the one they were asking for, who had been thrown into prison for rebellion and murder. But he handed Jesus over to their will.
  • Luke 23:26 - As they led him away, they seized Simon, a Cyrenian, who was coming in from the country, and laid the cross on him to carry behind Jesus.
  • Luke 23:27 - A large crowd of people followed him, including women who were mourning and lamenting him.
  • Luke 23:28 - But turning to them, Jesus said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and your children.
  • Luke 23:29 - Look, the days are coming when they will say, ‘Blessed are the women without children, the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed!’
  • Luke 23:30 - Then they will begin to say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us! ’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us!’
  • Luke 23:31 - For if they do these things when the wood is green, what will happen when it is dry?”
  • Luke 23:32 - Two others — criminals  — were also led away to be executed with him.
  • Luke 23:33 - When they arrived at the place called The Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals, one on the right and one on the left.
  • Luke 23:34 - Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, because they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided his clothes and cast lots.
  • Luke 23:35 - The people stood watching, and even the leaders were scoffing: “He saved others; let him save himself if this is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One!”
  • Luke 23:36 - The soldiers also mocked him. They came offering him sour wine
  • Luke 23:37 - and said, “If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself!”
  • Luke 23:38 - An inscription was above him: This Is the King of the Jews.

  • Matthew 23:37 - “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her. How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!

  • Matthew 27:13 - Then Pilate said to him, “Don’t you hear how much they are testifying against you?”
  • Matthew 27:14 - But he didn’t answer him on even one charge, so that the governor was quite amazed.
  • Matthew 27:15 - At the festival the governor’s custom was to release to the crowd a prisoner they wanted.
  • Matthew 27:16 - At that time they had a notorious prisoner called Barabbas.
  • Matthew 27:17 - So when they had gathered together, Pilate said to them, “Who is it you want me to release for you — Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?”
  • Matthew 27:18 - For he knew it was because of envy that they had handed him over.
  • Matthew 27:19 - While he was sitting on the judge’s bench, his wife sent word to him, “Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for today I’ve suffered terribly in a dream because of him.”
  • Matthew 27:20 - The chief priests and the elders, however, persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas and to execute Jesus.
  • Matthew 27:21 - The governor asked them, “Which of the two do you want me to release for you?” “Barabbas!” they answered.
  • Matthew 27:22 - Pilate asked them, “What should I do then with Jesus, who is called Christ?” They all answered, “Crucify him!”
  • Matthew 27:23 - Then he said, “Why? What has he done wrong?” But they kept shouting all the more, “Crucify him!”
  • Matthew 27:24 - When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that a riot was starting instead, he took some water, washed his hands in front of the crowd, and said, “I am innocent of this man’s blood. See to it yourselves!”

  • Matthew 27:26 - Then he released Barabbas to them and, after having Jesus flogged, handed him over to be crucified.
