  • Ezekiel 17:11 - The word of the Lord came to me:
  • Ezekiel 17:12 - “Now say to that rebellious house, ‘Don’t you know what these things mean? ’ Tell them, ‘The king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, took its king and officials, and brought them back with him to Babylon.
  • Ezekiel 17:13 - He took one of the royal family and made a covenant with him, putting him under oath. Then he took away the leading men of the land,
  • Ezekiel 17:14 - so that the kingdom would be humble and not exalt itself but would keep his covenant in order to endure.
  • Ezekiel 17:15 - However, this king revolted against him by sending his ambassadors to Egypt so they might give him horses and a large army. Will he flourish? Will the one who does such things escape? Can he break a covenant and still escape?
  • Ezekiel 17:16 - “‘As I live — this is the declaration of the Lord God — he will die in Babylon, in the land of the king who put him on the throne, whose oath he despised and whose covenant he broke.
  • Ezekiel 17:17 - Pharaoh with his mighty army and vast company will not help him in battle, when ramps are built and siege walls constructed to destroy many lives.
  • Ezekiel 17:18 - He despised the oath by breaking the covenant. He did all these things even though he gave his hand in pledge. He will not escape!
  • Ezekiel 17:19 - “‘Therefore, this is what the Lord God says: As I live, I will bring down on his head my oath that he despised and my covenant that he broke.
  • Ezekiel 17:20 - I will spread my net over him, and he will be caught in my snare. I will bring him to Babylon and execute judgment on him there for the treachery he committed against me.
  • Joshua 9:15 - So Joshua established peace with them and made a treaty to let them live, and the leaders of the community swore an oath to them.
  • 2 Samuel 21:2 - The Gibeonites were not Israelites but rather a remnant of the Amorites. The Israelites had taken an oath concerning them, but Saul had tried to kill them in his zeal for the Israelites and Judah. So David summoned the Gibeonites and spoke to them.
  • Exodus 8:15 - But when Pharaoh saw there was relief, he hardened his heart and would not listen to them, as the Lord had said.
  • Joshua 9:19 - All the leaders answered them, “We have sworn an oath to them by the Lord, the God of Israel, and now we cannot touch them.
  • Joshua 9:20 - This is how we will treat them: we will let them live, so that no wrath will fall on us because of the oath we swore to them.”
  • Exodus 9:17 - You are still acting arrogantly against my people by not letting them go.
  • Isaiah 48:4 - Because I know that you are stubborn, and your neck is iron and your forehead bronze,
  • Nehemiah 9:29 - You warned them to turn back to your law, but they acted arrogantly and would not obey your commands. They sinned against your ordinances, which a person will live by if he does them. They stubbornly resisted, stiffened their necks, and would not obey.
  • 2 Kings 24:20 - Because of the Lord’s anger, it came to the point in Jerusalem and Judah that he finally banished them from his presence. Then Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.
  • Hebrews 3:13 - But encourage each other daily, while it is still called today, so that none of you is hardened by sin’s deception.
  • 2 Chronicles 30:8 - Don’t become obstinate now like your ancestors did. Give your allegiance to the Lord, and come to his sanctuary that he has consecrated forever. Serve the Lord your God so that he may turn his burning anger away from you,
