The Scriptures provide precedent: Look! I’m setting a stone in Zion, a cornerstone in the place of honor. Whoever trusts in this stone as a foundation will never have cause to regret it. To you who trust him, he’s a Stone to be proud of, but to those who refuse to trust him, The stone the workmen threw out is now the chief foundation stone. For the untrusting it’s . . . a stone to trip over, a boulder blocking the way. They trip and fall because they refuse to obey, just as predicted.

  • Daniel 2:34 - As you were looking, a stone was cut out without [human] hands, and it struck the statue on its feet of iron and clay and crushed them.

  • 1 Peter 2:7 - This precious value, then, is for you who believe [in Him as God’s only Son—the Source of salvation]; but for those who disbelieve, “The [very] stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief Cornerstone,”
  • Acts 4:11 - This Jesus is the stone which was despised and rejected by you, the builders, but which became the chief Cornerstone.
  • Acts 4:12 - And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among people by which we must be saved [for God has provided the world no alternative for salvation].”
  • Psalms 118:22 - The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief corner stone.
