Psalm 83
Prayer against Enemies
1God, do not keep silent.
2See how your enemies make an uproar;
3They devise clever schemes against your people;
they conspire against your treasured ones.83:3 Jb 5:12–13; Ps 37:12; 64:2
4They say, “Come, let’s wipe them out as a nation
5For they have conspired with one mind;
they form an alliance83:5 Lit they cut a covenant against you83:5 Ps 2:2 —
6the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites,83:6 Gn 25:12–16; Ps 137:7
8Even Assyria has joined them;
they lend support83:8 Lit they are an arm to the sons of Lot.83:8 = Moab and Ammon83:8 2Kg 15:19Selah
9Deal with them as you did with Midian,83:9 Nm 31:7; Jdg 7:1–24
as you did with Sisera
10They were destroyed at En-dor;
and all their tribal leaders like Zebah and Zalmunna,83:11 Jdg 8:5–21
13Make them like tumbleweed, my God,
14As fire burns a forest,
15so pursue them with your tempest
16Cover their faces with shame
17Let them be put to shame and terrified forever;
18May they know that you alone —
whose name is the Lord —
are the Most High over the whole earth.83:18 Ps 97:9
